Hello my friend and welcome to Catch Up with Louise McSharry. This is the podcast where I do my best to keep you caught up with what's going on in the world. On Monday, we talk news. On Wednesday, we talk entertainment. And on Friday, we talk to someone interesting who's doing something interesting or has an interesting perspective. And guys, let me tell you, things are not going according to plan this week. So apologies that this episode is coming to you late. And as you know, I was away at the weekend at a wedding, didn't get home until Monday evening. So we couldn't record the news episode until Tuesday morning, which meant that I had to bump the recording of today's episode. And then there was just a miscommunication over timing.
And you know yourself, sometimes things just don't go the way that you want them to go. And if I'm honest, I have been doing too much and have dropped some balls. And yeah, I think sometimes, like, obviously, you guys know, I do loads of stuff. I go loads of places. And I think since, you know, the rhythm of my life has changed a bit where I have... you know, days with the kids, half the week with the kids and then half the week to myself. I kind of was filling up every single minute of the half the week to myself with things and trips and plans, kind of in an attempt to like not feel lonely, I think really is what happened. And I just overdid it. And I have realized this week that it's actually really important to have downtime.
And I just wasn't factoring downtime into my life at all. Because the days when I have the kids, especially Ted is playing football quite seriously now. And a lot of the days that I have him, he would have football training. So those days are just crazy. Like, you know, the morning, you're up, you're making lunches, you're getting the kids out the door. I get home, I start work immediately, work until I have to leave to go and collect the kids. I usually don't even take a lunch break. I And which is stupid. So that's what I'm saying. It's stupid. And then I go and get the kids. And obviously, we go to Ted's football training. And then by the time we get home, it's like an absolute race against the clock to get dinner cooked.
And everybody settled into bed. And then by the time they're in bed, and I have a minute, it's half nine, at which point I'm sometimes have more work to do. And then sometimes I'm just exhausted and end up going to bed straight away. So there's just no And then on the days where I don't have the kids, I've been making just simply too many plans. And so I realized that kind of hit a wall this week and realized that I was behind on literally everything. Absolutely exhausted. and needed to like re-examine the way I'm approaching life to be honest um and I think you know I forgive myself for this it's been a big year lots has changed I obviously needed to figure some stuff out um but I after my um summer of yes I think it's going to be an autumn of no
An autumn of no, an autumn of slow, an autumn of cozy because your girl needs some downtime. Otherwise, all the balls that I'm juggling are going to all come collapsing down. And the reason that I mention it is not just by way of explanation for the delay in today's episode, but also to say that I think sometimes people kind of look at me and people say it to me. Like people say to me, oh, like, I don't know how you do it. Or, you know, you do so many things. It's like inspirational things. Don't be inspired by someone who's like driving himself into the ground is what I'm saying. I'm very lucky that I got the opportunity to do lots of things, but I need to learn to say no, basically. And so I'm going to work on that.
And, you know, I met someone yesterday who said to me, God, well, it looks great on it because I was like, well, actually, you know, it's probably a bit much. And she said, well, it looks great on Instagram. And I thought, yeah, doesn't everything look great on Instagram? Everybody looks perfect and happy on Instagram. And I'm fine, but I just need to slow down a little bit.
