Hello my friend and welcome to Catch Up with Louise Maxari. This is the podcast where I do my best to keep you caught up with what's going on in the world. On Monday we talk news, on Wednesday, entertainment, and on Friday We chat to someone interesting who's got something interesting going on. On Friday Just Gone, I brought you a sample of an episode from Patreon. I hope you guys enjoyed that. I really enjoyed recording that and I thought you might enjoy it too. We've got some really good stuff coming up in the interview section over the next few weeks, which I'm really excited to bring you. So lots of exciting things going on there. Now though, there is a lot of news to discuss, and obviously we had to talk a lot about the conversation and the happenings around last night's Ireland Israel match.

Yeah, I'd imagine for yourself as well with the whole back to school run and stuff. For me, like, you know, when you're s when your routine doesn't change, I think you don't feel the changing of the seasons as like sharply. Yeah.

Yeah, that's probably true. I mean I like I think I like most parents was just relieved Also, the kids start to get a bit deranged towards the end of the summer. Like they kind of go slightly feral and and like they n I actually genuinely think they need the routine of school. Like they start to kind of lose it a little bit. Um and but like I will say the Glen Rose were in my house in such a big way last night. Like everyone in my life was having a really hard time with the weekend being over, including the kids. Like Sam just kept saying The weekend why does the weekend have to be over? It's not it's not fair. Then Ted was like Ted was in bed with me last night and he was like, Why is school even a thing?

Yeah, yeah. They were having a hard time with real life and that's fair enough. Um well look, we've got a lot of news to talk about, Carl, so I suppose we better get stuck in. And I think the f the story that was on everybody's lips, uh eyes and ears over the weekend was, of course, the tale of the Ireland versus Israel match which took place last night.

Yeah, so I suppose it's probably um a good idea to give a sense of a timeline of how things have played out since the Irish players joined up for this international break. Um they had already played one match against Kosovo last week and they had lost one nil. And it was really after that match against Kosovo where one of the players, Jason Knight, came out uh and he was doing his, you know, his post match press conference duties and he said that he wasn't happy that the game with his going ahead. He said he he wished it wasn't going ahead. And that was kind of as forthright as any Irish player had been so far. Because obviously as we know, since the draw was made back earlier this year. There's been huge calls for either the players or the FAI or the government to make a decision to boycott this match.

And because the government really didn't intervene at all, and in fact they sort of encouraged the FAI to go ahead with the match. And of course the FAI never seemed to even entertain the possibility of not playing the match. Then for the outsider perspective, it sort of seemed like the decision was going to just end up falling on the players because it seemed like nobody in any kind of higher up position was prepared to take the decision.

You know, at at all junctures it has seemed like this match was just gonna go ahead. You know, there really was no You know, as much as there was a stop the game campaign, there really was no suggestion that this match was ever not going to be fulfilled all the way up until Saturday morning, Friday night, Saturday morning, which is when things got really dramatic.
