How do data brokers and stolen personal information lead to identity theft?

Unknown 0:00
Most people don't realize how much of their personal information is being bought and sold every day. Data brokers are making billions pulling details about you from public records and the internet, then packaging and selling it, usually without your consent. That's how your information lands in the hands of scammers, spammers, even stalkers. That's where Aura comes in. And even up to $5 million in identity theft insurance. All backed by 24-7 U.S.-based fraud support. Other companies might just sell credit monitoring or just a VPN. Aura gives you all of that together at the same price competitors charge for just one service. Start your free trial today at aura.com slash prevent. Protect yourself now at aura.com slash prevent.

Ladies and gentlemen, you're listening to another edition of DIY Money. DIY Money. So, Logan, it is spring. Spring is in the air, and it might not be in the air very much longer. It's like 50 degrees today, and it's supposed to snow on Sunday, but it is in the air. It's been glorious. And how has the basketball...

What does Aura offer to protect against scams and identity theft?

Quint (host) 1:39
Oh, basketball's been fire.
Logan (host) 1:41
I've played every week for the last, I don't know, couple months. I'm still sore every time afterwards, but it is a lot of fun. And I've gotten it back a little bit. There's a difference between being relatively in shape and being in basketball shape and running side to side and jumping and doing all the things. It's gotten a lot better. It's been a lot of fun.
Quint (host) 2:03
I can... relate because not basketball because i've told you my history with basketball how i i've had to basically give it up because it frustrates me so but i can be in marathon shape and then go play pickleball yeah and i i mean i need like a heart transplant like i'm It is a completely different cardio workout. And yeah, so that's great. So are you in a league that so that culminates with a tournament at the end or what?
Logan (host) 2:33
So it's a Thursday night. It's a standing Thursday night games. It's like church league, but it's it's all pickups. So we do pick up every time, and there will be different people that come. And it's a little bit of all ages, but what I've noticed, most of the group, I would say 8 out of the 10, are younger than me. Like, I'm old now. What is happening? It is ridiculous, but I've gotten it back.
Quint (host) 2:55
Wait until you're 48. You're ancient.
Logan (host) 2:57
Yeah, fair enough.
Quint (host) 2:58
I mean, I'm like, you know, somebody, there was a new slang that was sent my way the other day, and I was like, what? And my car was in the shop getting, don't get me started on Tesla tires, by the way. I love my Tesla, but I probably have replaced all four tires.
Logan (host) 3:16
You have, like multiple times. No.
Quint (host) 3:18
I've plugged. They've been plugged. But, I mean, with this ice storm, I had two separate tire incidents where I'm sure I ran over something that was picked up by a plow. I mean, it just drives me nuts. But, anyways, I was driving another automobile we have, and, of course, I didn't have plug-in, you know, whatever. I went to the radio is what I'm trying to say. I went to the radio. And I turned on what the last station was that my son was listening to the car, which was like, you know, hot one Oh two, the beat, blah, blah, blah. Where maybe 10, 15 years ago, like that would have been your jam. Yeah. Like I know what's happening. I know these guys. Okay. Maybe even fast forward to a little, I'm trying to think of a couple of names that I would know.
Quint (host) 4:02
And now they're all escaping me. Uh, LL Cool J. But anyways, uh, This, though, I don't, at first I thought it was a commercial. Like, I thought it was a commercial the way they were talking with some music behind it. And then the commercial went longer than a minute. I'm like, oh, this is not a commercial. This is a song.
Logan (host) 4:22
It was just terrible.
Quint (host) 4:23
This is a song. You hear this when you go to a basketball game. You walk into a basketball game, and it's like, I don't know what's being played.
