What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
It's a Lot is recorded on Gadigal land. We pay our respects to the traditional custodians of this land and to elders past and present. We also would love to extend our respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people listening today and remind you all that sovereignty was never ceded and it always was and always will be Aboriginal land.
It's a Lot.
It's a Lot. Hey everyone. So listen, I'm in the middle of a tour. So I don't have anything really planned for this episode because I'm doing... Okay, so right now as you record, it is Monday. So like eight days before this comes out. But between when I'm recording this and when this comes out, I've got... five, five shows, five shows to do, live shows. And I literally flew in this morning from doing three shows in a row and my voice is going as you can hear. And so I thought we'd do a little mental health check-in or life check-in because I got back from Greece. So my schedule has been so crazy. I left Listener and started this podcast. business I guess in April and then April was maths so now that's funny to laugh at but it is a lot of work for us and then May I was getting towards my book deadlines and I was doing the book all day every day as well as doing all the changeover things for this and then all of June I was still doing the book all day every day 12 hours a day mental health went downhill talking about all these awful things all day every day we're writing about them all day every day
And then for my birthday I went to Greece and that was great but we'll get into that in a moment. And then now I'm on tour. So I'm just feeling so out of it and so all sorts. And I had a mental health check-in, what, like a month ago? Yeah, about a month ago.
A month ago, I guess.
And people apparently have been asking for an update. So here's an update. I mean, listen, things are going great. They're marginally better.
How did Abbie describe her current tour schedule and why is she recording on the road?
They're better. I feel like, when was that? That was like the week before I left for Greece, I think.
A bit earlier, yeah.
A bit earlier. So I think that like I had this, you know, a lot of crazy things have happened, a lot of crazy and awful things have happened in the past year, but particularly in the past couple of months. And I had this idea in my head that I, when I went to Greece, like everything would be better and fine. And I feel like that's a very common thing. Like when you go on a holiday, you think that, oh, like I'll be there and I'll be relaxed there and it's going to be so good. And I feel like that, that like used to be the case for me. I was able to kind of switch off. Like it would take like a day or two to, to settle into a holiday as I think it does for everyone. But then you kind of get into the groove of it and you can fully relax.
And, And this trip that Adam and I went on, it was really nice. Like it was good. We went to this island called Phologandros, which is a really small island. It's kind of like no one there in Greece, obviously. We went last year. We loved it. We just went back. That was my birthday present was Adam taking me to Greece, which was beautiful. Got a great place. It I got flown out there, yay, lucky girl. But I do feel like, you know, unfortunately when you are really depressed or stressed or anxious, and particularly with what's going on with me, with my anxiety, it's like – Every night I go to sleep and I wonder what's going to happen the next day.
What recent life changes and work stressors led Abbie to do a mental health check‑in?
And I'm really scared of nine to five, Monday to Friday, because I'm scared something's going to come up or something's going to happen or a journalist is going to write something, quote unquote journalist, is going to write something that's a lie or exaggerating or sending more hate towards me. And it's just like anytime anything happens, good or bad, someone or a group of people come in to ruin it or actively try to ruin it or just harass Adam and I or make up lies about us or the media attack us. And it's just like every day it's like, what are they going to do next? So, yeah. going away to Greece usually is like, oh yeah, we're detached from everything.
