Well, the referee's boss makes the decision, but they do it based on the fact that all the referees have got KPIs. Now, exactly what those metrics are, we're never really told. How many sits a game? Once a game. Oh, well, look, once a game. Look, you know, like the NRL, I don't know why that transparency is just a dirty word down there. But the referees are marked on various KPIs. They're 10 metres. They play the ball speed, things like that. Okay, we know those sorts of things are in there. And then basically whoever comes out top. But I also think... They are so closely together, all the referees in that area, and they mark up so closely together. I think every now and then, some referees just handle big games better.
Some of the referees just have a feel for the game more than other referees. Some referees are very judicious in, that's a penalty, that's not a penalty, and they're very... narrow-minded on things, whereas other referees, and Bill was the classic example. Bill was an open-minded referee.
