We were talking, Keith, just before we went to break about some of your and thank you for sticking with us, some of your younger players, and obviously a lot of focus on Mitchkoff. Uh Jet Luchek, and I'll be honest, I've not seen him play. Um maybe a little bit of video of him uh during the draft again Emonton went into that draft without having a first round pick. They ended up with one courtesy of you guys, late first rounder.
But tell us about what we're gonna see tonight 'cause he is in the lineup tonight.
Well you'll notice him early. He flies. He's uh one of our best skaters already and as an eighteen year old kid that just turned eighteen about a month and a half ago. He's one of the youngest players in the draft. Um I believe if the you know if he was a month and a half older or uh sorry, younger that he would be a top five pick next year in the draft. And uh we feel really fortunate that we were able to get him at number thirteen. So he He is a quick thinker as well as a quick skater and is already a pretty mature defensive player. Continues to work on the offense and we're really excited about what he's going to bring to the table. We're really excited that he's in the lineup again tonight as well.
And made it through towards his camp, no problems at all. I'm very shocked by that for an 18-year-old kid to get through the amount of skating that we have in our camp. It's a really tough and difficult grueling camp for the our veteran players to get through as well. And this kid had no problem with it. So that's uh probably one of the more remarkable things about our training camp this year was Luchenko.
Well, I would say, uh, from an oiler's perspective, I didn't feel the pace and tempo was there, but the team also played until June the twenty fourth and I would think. You know, I mean I don't know whether or not, you know, how you sort of equate that. Uh but I do it it is interesting to me, you were telling me off air, you guys retained Brent Flair to to head up your your draft and I you know, he he was always Chuck Fletcher's guy. I find you know, obviously you valued what Brent did you know, we used to see him and he's a very unassuming guy, but I think it says something about you guys too, the fact that you were open to keeping some of your creates
Yeah, and he's really good at what he does. You know, he was doing a lot more when Chuck was there too because there you know there was no president on the team. Chuck had a lot on his plate and Brent was doing a lot of the pro stuff as well. He's amateur now, he still, you know, value his opinion on things at the pro level, but his amateur job is the biggest job that we have right now. The drafts are extremely important for us. Um Brent drafted Tyson Forrester, you know, that was his pick. York was his pick. Uh both of those players continue to develop and are really key ingredients for our future, uh kind of becoming part of that solid base that we're looking for. And you know, we w we love obviously the Mechkoff pick, we love Oliver Bonk, who was selected in twenty twenty three in the first round as well, and is starring for the London Knights on the back end.
And
we have uh y uh Yeagor Z Zavragon who people are gonna hear about. He's a goalie that we picked up in the twenty twenty three draft, as well as as Bjarnesen, who of course plays in the Western Hockey League and Brandon. Uh Carson's done a great job there as well.
