Let's get to our sit-down conversation with Edmonton Oilers head coach Chris Knobloch. Chris, so many times during the course of the season, the focus is on the Edmonton Oilers because you've got, you know, the star powers with guys like Conor McDavid and Leon Drysdale and coaches like to focus on their own team. But sometimes, you know, you do acknowledge how good the players are in opposition teams and they got an emerging star, Macklin celebrating it.
So does it result in a little bit different game prep from a coaching perspective?
Well, absolutely with Celebrini, one of the best players in the NHL, and he's having an outstanding season. And you can see how much he drives their offense. He's got twice as many points as the next guy on their team. So for us, we have to spend some time on making sure that we've got a game plan to contain him.
It's interesting. The last hat trick going in a couple games ago from an Oilers defenseman was from Marc-Andre Bergeron during the 05-06 season. You had recently finished your playing career, I think. Was that the first year you coached? Was 05-06? I remember that year because that was the year that they called a lot of obstruction penalties. And there were a lot of 5v3 goals. In fact, two of the goals that Marc-Andre Bergeron had as an Oiler getting the hat trick were scored on the power play. Back-to-back games. from your defense, Evan Bouchard, and then Matthias Ekholm. I guess that just shows you, you can never really predict what's going to happen on the game, but you like the little bit of offense you're getting from the back end right now.
Very remarkable that you get back-to-back hat tricks from your defensemen. And you knew Evan Bouchard was going to get a hat trick eventually with his offensive ability, you know, and then echo him to follow it up the next night with his own. You know, that's great. And we need offense driven from our defense. And whether they're scoring the goals, but they need to be making the plays to set those plays up. You know, when we have Wallman back in our lineup, it definitely helps, and we feel like we've got a pretty good six-man unit that can provide some offense.
