Uh Uh I just I remember you uh two handed me after you guys won game five in Carolina. Uh we were uh scrumming in that ridiculous wind tunnel down there after Fernando Pisani had scored in overtime. And uh it was actually I don't know if you remember this, but in between game three and game four you were behind me the lineup in River Bend at the Starbucks and I bought your coffee. And you're hawking and everything and you came up to me after you guys lost game four of the Stanley Cup final. I was the first one down there. It's before I'm doing the games and you're like, Hey, that was really cool, you bought the coffee, and you said to me, Stop, we're fine in the series, don't worry, we'll be coming back here from game six.
And then when you guys scored, you chopped me, Chris, as hard as I have right in the Achilles yells. I almost I almost knocked over the entire uh media horde that had uh congregated around Fernando who sniped the GWG and O. T. a shorty nonetheless too is the thing of beauty. Uh so we always had uh some uh good moments. Uh now you live you l you live here now, you're back in Saint Louis full time?
I live in Saint Louis, yeah. I I moved back, uh actually when I got hurt in Chile, I moved back to Saint Louis. My wife is from here and uh Uh her parents were having some health issues, so we uh we moved back.
So we play a little trivia game on the plane with the fellas, uh, and I uh fired up one the other day uh as we were flying here. Name the six first round picks out of Saint Louis that went in the twenty sixteen NHL draft. And there have been six and years gone past from E the Eventon and surrounding area. What is it that has made Saint Louis local hockey so good? I mean John Cooper came out of this program, your old buddy Pat Maroon who's still playing. Uh, you know, he was a bit of a late bloomer, but you know, guys like the the Kachuk brothers, tremendous players. Wha wha what specific why has it worked so well?
Yeah, you know, I think that would that would obviously was an outlier here, that doesn't happen very often, but you know, Trent Frederick, Luke Cunning, Clayton Keller, Matthew Kachuk, Logan Brown. Um And there was a couple other guys I think meant later in the draft from St Louis from that You know, that I think won the Pee-wee Quebec tournament that year. They, you know, they they had a lot of success. I think Al Al Makes was their coach. Jeff Brown was a coach. Yeah, so they had some some well regarded players that were excellent coaches in their own re own right.
What memorable moments does Chris recall from the 2006 Stanley Cup run?
Uh help kinda mentor and tutor the kids and And uh Ki Kachuk was another coach on those teams, so Uh you know, they had a lot of uh a lot of notoriety but they all had a lot of wisdom and and knowledge of the game and you know, I think when you look at those players in particular Uh they've got a lot of uh gamesmanship and and understanding of the game hockey sense wise. Some more than others. But uh you know I think I think that's when you have that collection of talent on your coaching staff Uh and and up and down, you know, you got the powerful Kichuk, you've got a uh well rounded uh offensive the defenseman and now you've got an offensive defenseman, Jeff Brown and there was a couple of other uh former players that that coach that team as well.
