Everybody's in a happy mood today, and I'm guessing that's because we're getting just a little bit closer to the start of another National Hockey League season. The only other group that might be really happy today are the Toronto Blue Jays because I see the Yankees have a 3-2 lead on the Boston Red Sox midway through their American League wildcard matchup. So that might go and be extended for another game, but the Jays will be hosting the winner of that series coming up on Saturday. I'm happy. Our next guest is happy. Oh, it is gorgeous and sunny. And you're right, baseball playoffs are on. It's hard to beat when you've got as many games to watch today and some pretty exciting baseball and that much closer to the start of the NHL season. Hey, just before you
dig in on the NHL stuff, isn't October the best month of the year for sports? It's just great.
I love it. You know what, I often think, Bryn, that the baseball playoffs don't get near enough credit in our country for being exciting. Now, for the most part, that's because the Jays aren't part of it. But baseball playoffs, to me, are absolutely electric for a long period of time. So it will be exciting Saturday. The town is already wired for it. And I actually do wonder, you know, with the rhythm of baseball and the amount of games baseball players compete in, are Boston and the Yankees actually better off by playing these three games in three days? That's if. If game three is forced and then the Jays have been idle for a week, I wonder if that's going to be an issue for Toronto.
Yeah, there's something to be said for getting into a bit of a groove at this time of year. I'm with you on that one. But hey, listen, I just think it's going to be so much fun to watch. And I know a lot of friends in this neck of the woods, even with the NHL season starting here next Wednesday night. that are pretty excited about watching some baseball action because it's the Blue Jays. Now, I'm an Expos guy, but I can still cheer for Toronto, and I hope they do well this weekend. Okay, let's get to the NHL stuff. Here we are. We're a week away. The Oilers' home opener is next Wednesday. The Calgary Flames are here. It's an 8 o'clock start.

There are so many little side stories going here. What are you most excited about? Let's talk about on the grand scale of things first with the National Hockey League, then we'll focus in on the Oilers.
Well, you know, I think there's still intrigue with all the restricted and unrestricted free agents signing or waiting to sign. That's the one thing. And the other one is on the negative side, and quite frankly, it may not have bit anybody in Edmonton yet, but it's the injury bug. You know, and... You do wonder, with camps being shorter and less games being played next year, if that's going to be even a bigger issue. Beyond Barkov, Jamie Benn, Dylan Sandberg in Winnipeg, there's a ton of guys, high-profile guys, that won't start the season. And you wonder how that's going to affect play.
I totally agree. We were chatting with Pierre Lebrun a little while ago, and he's been one of the advocates about starting the season earlier and finishing it earlier.
