Hey Matt, how you doing? I'm doing wonderful, Brent. Thanks for having me. Hey, uh you gotta be excited. Training camps already underway. How's it going so far?

Matt Barrett 1:21

Yeah, it's awesome. It's been a been a busy few days but uh the competition's high here at camp and you know the players seem just uh really excited to be back on the ice. It's uh you know it's a fun time of year. The weather is beautiful, but uh you know what, we're we're inside a rink and uh wouldn't wouldn't

want it any other way. I know, that's just how it works. Hey uh new head coach this time around, Jason Smith there. How how's he looking so far?

Matt Barrett 1:45

Yeah, awesome. You know, I think uh you know, he's a coach that's excited to uh uh coach this club and uh it's an exciting team for him to to have in his reins as well. So um he seems to be a coach that can uh you know speak to a lot of uh you know, the different age groups and different kinds of players which uh you know I think what this team needs and uh it's uh been a lot of fun to watch him at work and um it's gonna be uh an exciting year for for him for sure and to see what he can do with this club.

I gotta think the enthusiasm of the new coach just being out there on the ice is kinda rubbing off on the players too, huh?

Matt Barrett 2:16

And the other coaches too. I mean, uh you s you see the assistant coaches out there seem to have a little bit more pep in their step, I think, and um it's a lot of fun to see for sure. Uh there's a lot of smiles out there and um looks like it's gonna be uh pretty good group this year.

Matt, I gotta ask you, based on what happened last year and now we're going into this season, what do they have to work on in your opinion?

Matt Barrett 2:38

Well I think the one thing there's a chip on uh the returnees' shoulders, that's for sure. Um but I think the one thing that you look at with this group is it's a uh another year older, another year uh stronger, another year better. And there's a lot of returning guys on this team that uh are gonna help this team um get to that next level where they wanna be and you know, a couple of trades in the off season and um this team looks a little different but it's also, you know, an older team now after last year that's now got this experience of uh you know a playoff series and a long playoff series. So um, you know, though those battle scars will definitely help him this year, I think.

Goaltending situation, is it far from resolved? Is it going to be anybody's uh race through training camp or uh do we have a front runner?

Matt Barrett 3:22

Well Ethan Simcoe has you know is back for for another season, his sa his first full season, second year I guess with the club. And uh he shined last year in uh you know, his uh regular season efforts and uh and then in the playoffs he uh he played the last five games of the playoff series. So uh he seems to be uh you know, a stud in between the pipes and you know, young star in Parker Snell who showed really well in his a few opportunities as a sixteen year old last year.
