Hart, you got a tough act to follow Uh Bruce Kurlock just made his first appearance on the show. Bruce does a lot of work uh video-wise on assessing uh uh the Eventon Oilers and I know uh y prospects and keeping an eye on the farm team. I wanna I wanna get your thoughts with the f the first question that I asked Bruce today. How would you assess, and I know we've had you on multiple times during the year, how would you assess the season? The fact that they got back to the San Antonio Cup final for the second consecutive year, eventually losing in six games to the Florida Panthers.
I think anytime you get to the cup final it's a pretty successful year. I mean most teams in the NHL would take it it but for Edmonton where they're at, I mean it's obviously um judged by cuts, so it's not a not a total success, but you can't look at the year as a failure or even p um poor. I mean it's as good as you could possibly get without winning.
Uh Bruce used the word judicious to describe Stan Bowman's f uh philosophical approach with the salary cap and the position that the oilers are in. This you're a guy that monitors this right now, you have the site. Uh through the first three days? Yeah. I mean, certainly they they moved out money and they didn't commit anything um too too big dollars. I mean, the one is Trent Frederick, that's that's a lot of firm obviously and and money. Um you wonder what like what was that number gonna be on a three year deal? Was it gonna be like four, four and a half? Um and you know, did he have other offers that could get even close to Edmund's offer. I mean that you we won't know 'cause they didn't go to market that that's the one that was was a big commitment. I think the Mangiopani, I mean yeah, I you could see that there was definitely likely other offers out there. I mean just look at Some of the the players that signed with teams with lots of cap space and you could see like if sa like San Jose needed to get to the floor, they claimed Letty, they gave Orlov a pretty decent deal.
So um, you know, a team like that w could Lange Pliny made more money from for sure. So um, you know, you I think that deal uh judicious is a good word for that. It's a small commitment. It's really the same commitment, almost the same commitment you made to Arvinson last year. And uh well it didn't work out. You got out of it and you got a late pick and I guess you'd take another step to the plate and swing and see if you can get another smaller player that's got a bit of energy and some scoring touch that's maybe a better fit.
