What were the highlights of the Dublin derby match?
I think if everybody's been honest with themselves, we would have went down to Dublin on the hope that we can ignite the thing again. But once we were beaten by Cork, I think we knew deep down that we weren't going to win in All-Ireland.
Off the Ball Daily
Ross, a big win of goal for you as well. You must be absolutely delighted to get a Dublin derby win like that over the line.
Yeah, like you said, I was delighted to get three points. I was probably fortunate with my goal. I knew when Dawson got it, he could find me in back post. I think it came off my hand, but thankfully it went in.
Talk to me about that, because I was going to ask you about it maybe a bit later on. I was going to say, was your heart in your mouth when he hits the hand? Is your heart in your mouth when you see Conor Parsons running away celebrating as well?
No, I thought when I hit my hand, I was like, right, it's a free out. So when I ran after, I was like, I don't really need to touch, he's going to give a free out. But thankfully, I went in and then I looked at the line and he was running back towards the half of the line. So I thought, it's a goal. So I was happy and just celebrate before he chocks off. Is that something you're laughing about in the dressing room after? Yeah, I was probably laughing about getting the man of the match more than scoring a goal. I thought Dawson was unbelievable and Paul Waters with a massive side in the first half to keep us in it. So I'm not sure who picks the man of the match but I won't complain.
Talking about when you go down to 10 men and yourself and Dawson in particular have a lot of running to do in the middle of the park after that. We obviously know you're fit lads but you've gone from Friday, Monday into Friday again and three big games. How's that coping with changing that in the second half?
Yeah, it's tough obviously playing against 11 men. We knew second half we were going to go the extra yards but it's one thing we spoke about in pre-season is when these games come around, three games in a week, that we'd be ready for it because that's why we work so hard in pre-season.
How did Ross Tierney feel about his controversial goal?
It's two huge Dublin derbies in a row and it looks like this place was on wheels tonight and we know it's the last time you're going to play in it in its current form. Are you savouring in nights like this when you're playing them and you're scoring in them? What's gone through your head?
It's tough to look at, save them after a game like this. Probably look back at the end of the season, hopefully we've got some silverware up there challenging for Europe. So hopefully we look back at the end of the season with some joy, but we won't look too far to that.
You've got a European campaign to come up to as well, the first repose in five years. You must be buzzing going ahead of that.
Yeah, I had a taste the last time I was here during COVID, which didn't really get the most of the fans in, but it was the best days of my career so far and hopefully we can have another good run like that.
Is there a slight worry going into the European games? We know obviously it's a huge three points against Passanoy, but they're not playing in Europe. Rovers are going to be playing in Europe, Shelburne and teams around you are going to be playing. Is there a worry about legs? We spoke to the manager and he didn't seem to be too worried at all about it.
No, he wouldn't be worried about it. That's why we've got a squad and we've got fit lads. I think you showed today the lads that came on can run like the starters. We look forward to playing games and I think training is high intensity when it comes to the game already. Just one last thing before I let you go.
You were quite close to the penalty decision in the first half. Have you had a chance to look back at it yet?
I have him now. I thought I was going to score but I knew he was going to chop back and then obviously the player for his quality is going to draw a foul and thankfully we got the penalty and Collie stuck it away. Thanks, Josh. Well done today.
