What are the highlights of the Shamrock Rovers vs Galway United match?

Stephen Doyle 0:00
Football on Off the Ball. There was an ad for four tickets to the final at a cost of $2.3 million each. $2.3 million each for a ticket to the final, yeah. Join in the obsession. Subscribe now at offtheball.com forward slash join.

Off the Ball, GAA.
John Caulfield 0:18
Sean McRover's head coach, Stephen Bradley. Well, you must be delighted, first of all, with the three points, but the fact that I suppose you came up against a very good goal with United side as well.
Stephen Bradley 0:26
Yeah, really good team. I think you can't understate that. They're going to be teams like they have already here and they continue to do that. They're a real handful. They've got different threats. They can score from set players, but they've got real pace and power in the team. They're a good team, really good team. So we knew we had to come here and be right on it if we wanted to win the game. And to be fair to the players, I thought their attitude was top class.
John Caulfield 0:50
The fact that their centre-back partnership was completely changed, obviously one was injured, one got a bug this morning.

How did Stephen Bradley feel about the performance of his team?

John Caulfield 0:56
Was that a surprise to you then or did it kind of change your own preparations or was it just we do what we do?
Stephen Bradley 1:01
No, it didn't change, but it was a surprise. Obviously, the two centre-halves, they were missing our big players for them. So it was a surprise, but it didn't alter what we did. Our plan was our plan and we've worked on it all week. So that didn't change. But obviously, them missing two of their key centre-backs obviously helps us.
John Caulfield 1:18
On your own centre-halves then as well, I suppose when you get a challenge like that, especially when it changes at half-time, France-Pirogues comes on, I'm thinking with a view to when Roberto Lopez goes to the World Cup, it's almost like a dress rehearsal. Getting those different back three combinations, playing these games is also really good preparation for when he's away.
Stephen Bradley 1:37
Yeah, it is. Look, I'd imagine that with Pico, he won't play for us again until after the World Cup and imagine, you know, we could get him back, but I don't see we take that risk. It doesn't make sense. If you look at the players that are playing there tonight, you've got Enda, who's played at the highest level for a number of years. You've got Lee, who's been one of the best in the country for a long time. And Dan is very similar and has won so many titles. So when you have that three, yeah, you're really comfortable. Obviously, Pique is a top player, but the three players, they're not three kids that come in and try to learn the game. They're three top players. So, yeah, it's an easy transition.
John Caulfield 2:10
And then the three goals, like I suppose you really caught Galway Cole with the first one and then the second and third, but it was all really good build-up play from Shamrock Rovers. It must be very satisfying for you as the coach.
Stephen Bradley 2:21
Yeah, it was. It was important we started here because once they get going and they get the crowd involved and they score, they're a handful. They're a real handful. And it was important we stayed at our levels. And I thought we did that really well. Galway had maybe a 10 or 15-minute spell to start the second half. Other than that, I thought we were very good. The goals, the timings were important. But I thought some of our play was really, really good, especially second half when you're trying to take the sting out of the game. I thought it was really good.
John Caulfield 2:45
Yeah, I was going to say that to you actually because Johnny Dunleavy, my co-com, and myself were saying that there was times in the game where you're able to just hold on to possession, pass the ball and just, as you say, take that sting out of the match.
Stephen Bradley 2:57
Yeah, we were in control, so there was no point in making a basketball game at that point. Obviously, the opportunity presents itself, you try and score, but other than that, you kill the game and take the legs out of them. And I thought we did that really well. And when you bring Delisa Graham and Dylan and Connor on, you're always going to keep the ball with them three on the pitch. And I thought we did that really well.
