Hello there, you are welcome to the LOI Pod on Off The Ball. Stephen Doyle back with you again this week. Thanks a million to Ben for filling in last week, doing a brilliant job as ever. And Ben is actually going to be on commentary duty this Friday night for our feature game on Off The Ball. It is the Dublin Derby taking place at Daly Mount Park. between Bohemians and St. Patrick's Athletic. More on that later in the pod. But for now, let's have a listen to what happened on off the ball last Friday night.
for Pat's luck the last couple of weeks of being iffy he has to be drafted before that lost to Shamrock Rovers drew with Terry and lost to Shell so they're the you know they should be in my view with Shamrock Rovers weakened at the moment they should be there thereabouts in the league title race and it's nice like tonight we find out they're in it three minutes had it on we've had five seconds of it so far here's the corner kick from the far side going header away again by McIlroy on the edge of the box Bagley picks up the ball gets around Seppi plays it out
to Ryan Edmondson chips the ball to Luke Turner in fact chips the ball towards the back post Cannon clears it away this time Oh I love bloody love League of Ireland what a game this is back to Breslin at the end line he looks up tries to pull it back it's deflected off a couple of Sligo Rovers players Gareth McIlroy goes to put his big right boot through as it goes out to the touchline over that far side it's played back to Sean Hoare floats it to the back post it's all right there
what a goal it's the captain fantastic he'll win it away he scores what must be the winner here a victory part when they've hooked they've hooked they've blown Sligo Wilbur's head down
Who are the standout players discussed in the episode?
But St. Patrick's at the limit, taking a one-nil lead in the last minute of out of time. 92 minutes and 30 seconds on the clock.
That looks like game-setting. Sligo feeling really hard on Mike. A huge moment potentially in the title race.
Sean Horne at defensive heli clearance to Cam McLoong, there's a big bucket in here by Yim Sam Rooney, he's played the ball into the pot to Chris Forrester, he's the only guy to see what could be, and the goalkeeper takes it side, and there it is, that is a superb goal. But one of the greatest maestro's ever to play in midfield in the League of Ireland. Chris Forrester, mighty spot for him. He's just put the captain up there for the Saints, who are now guaranteed all three points in this game tonight. It's incredible. We had so much entertainment in the 90 minutes. It did look like we'd get a goal. And all of a sudden, we get two at once, just like Dublin buses going down the Emmet Road, Vinnie.
Oh, what an amazing finish by Chris Forrester.
What does the performance of Bohemians reveal about their strategy?
He was the calmest man.
didn't play well in the first half but still we could have had four goals probably and they could have had four and it was so open end to end and danny rogers played well for us uh in that period and uh so we went in a half time disappointed with our performance we've often been behind here half time and come back in and won well so with the realization that we could you know we need to step up and uh I thought we were very good second half and created so many chances. I just couldn't believe it didn't go in numerous times. In the end, we deserved a win.
If we continue to play that way and be brave in possession and out of possession, like we press Pat's high up the pitch and a restart, I think they struggle to get a rhythm into their game. Each week, I know games can take a life of their own, but if we continue to play the way we are, we've shown it year after year, we get stronger as the season goes on.
