2010 is, I think, the final. Because I would have been eight years old and I remember watching the final and my whole family was in the sitting room. And I think we were shouting for Spain.

World Cup Daily on Off the Ball. With Lynx, a proud sponsor of the FIFA World Cup 2026. Hello and welcome along to Monday's World Cup Daily. I'm Phil Egan. Coming up today, Roberto Lopez features for Cape Verde who are still unbeaten at their first World Cup. Spain get their first win of the tournament on the same day Egypt win their first ever World Cup match. Defending champions Argentina play today and Shamrock Rovers can open up an eight-point lead at the top of the Premier Division. First up, Cape Verde impressed once again in their first ever World Cup. Shamrock Rovers captain Roberto Lopez was in central defence once again for their two-all draw with two-time champions Uruguay in Miami. Kevin Pena scored a free kick to put Cape Verde ahead with their first ever goal of the tournament, having drawn nil-all with Spain in their Group H opener.
Uruguay, who drew 1-1 with Saudi Arabia in their first game, scored twice before halftime. Max Araujo and Agustin Canobia scored the goals. Substitute Helio Varela equalised for the African side in the second half to keep their qualification hopes alive. A draw against Saudi Arabia in their last group game may be enough to advance to the last 32. Uruguay have to play Spain in their last group game. European champion Spain beat Saudi Arabia 4-0 in Atlanta. It took Lamine Yamal just 10 minutes to score his first World Cup goal after coming into the starting XI. Mikel Yerassabel scored twice in the first half. The fourth goal was a known goal. Yamal was taken off at half-time with the win already wrapped up as he continues his recovery from a hamstring injury.
Mo Salah scored for Egypt who beat New Zealand 3-1 in Group G to get their first ever win at a World Cup.
It's a great feeling for all of us. It's a great achievement. As I said before, we just do our best in the tournament to make the people happy in Egypt and I think right now they are happy. What happened today is a history for us as Egyptians.
So Egypt are top of that group after Belgium drew nil all with Iran in the other game. Arsenal winger Leandro Trossard admits the Belgians were left frustrated by the result despite having Nathan Ngoi sent off with 25 minutes to play.
We had many good chances, I think, to score goals, but we didn't in the end. And then with 10 men against 11, you know, you have to defend your box. And we did that well in the end. So it's a bit of mixed feelings, I would say.
Belgium play New Zealand in their final group game. Meanwhile, Iran left a handwritten note in their dressing room after the game with a message saying, May peace, respect and friendship prevail among all nations. Iran are competing at the World Cup while their country and the US are in negotiations to end their war. Several members of their backroom staff were denied entry visas for the US. The squad then switched their base for the World Cup from Arizona to Tijuana in Mexico and they face strict travel restrictions. They have to fly into the US a day before they have a game and leave the country on the same day as a match. This evening at six, defending champions Argentina will face Austria in Group J. All eyes will be on Lionel Messi once again after his stunning hat-trick against Algeria in the opening game.
Messi, who will be 39 on Wednesday, needs one more goal to overtake Miroslav Klose's all-time record of 16 World Cup goals. Austria also won their opening game in the group last week. The team Argentina beat in the final four years ago. France will look to make it two wins from two in Group I. Didier Deschamps side play Iraq at 10 o'clock tonight. Captain Kylian Mbappe stole the show against Senegal with two goals to take his tally to 58 international goals, making him France's all-time leading goal scorer.
