Why does success often silence the encouragement you once received?

Trish Blackwell 0:00
Okay, so there's something strange that happens when you start achieving more. People love to tell you to chase your dreams. They tell you to go for it, to believe in yourself, to become your best. But, and when you do... Something starts to change. You become more disciplined. You become focused. You become absolutely committed. You stop apologizing for your goals. Sometimes it feels inconvenient to others. You stay committed. You actually start following through and getting results. And suddenly the encouragement, the cheering, the go get them's gets quieter. The jokes start getting sharper. Uh, the invitation slow down. Snide comments are made. The energy shifts. And here's what I've learned after years of coaching high achievers and living this myself.

I'm your host, Trish Blackwell. Let's get started. Welcome to the Confidence Podcast. I'm your host and mindset coach, Trish Blackwell. You're listening to episode 712, and we're talking about the cost of extraordinary commitment and what to do with the haters when you start getting results, because you will get haters if you're doing anything in your life.

How does celebrating potential differ from celebrating consistent results?

Trish Blackwell 2:11
People are gonna talk, people have something to say about it, and it's my job to give you the tools to make sure you don't get distracted by that, you don't get discouraged by that, you don't get worried about what they think. This is why we do so much work on, first, initially, as you start pursuing those goals, to stop caring what people think, to let them. And that's why I created my fear of judgment reset, because it's critical that you learn to stop caring what people think. And so that's where we start, at the starting line, but once you get to the quote unquote finish line, where you start seeing results, we gotta double down even more and really dial in our skill set of not caring what people think at an even higher level, because you expected the hard part to be the work, to doing the thing, to getting the results, to getting the dream.
Trish Blackwell 2:57
But you didn't expect what happened after, which is awkward comments, subtle distance. People who used to cheer you on just kind of start ghosting you. Growth has a cost and it's one of the hardest costs is realizing that not everyone will celebrate the version of you that refuses to play small. Yeah, you will outgrow people. Doesn't mean you outgrow them in your life. You can have them in your life. They just don't get to be part of the intimate part of your dreams and goals anymore. And today we're going to be talking about how this extraordinary commitment and extraordinary success that you're creating with your life will often create unexpected tension in relationships and why your success can unintentionally trigger other people's insecurities.
Trish Blackwell 3:44
And I want to really let you Normalize this and not let it make you become bitter, defensive, lonely, or to change what you're doing. I want you to keep going and learn how to find the right people and not be bothered by the people who are trying to pull you down or who are just separating themselves for you. Because your discipline becomes someone else's mirror. Don't mistake someone else's discomfort for your wrongdoing. Not everyone who claps for your dream will clap for your discipline or your results. And what I want to start with is people love potential when it doesn't threaten them.
