When you think about Patrick Mahomes, Hall of Fame career has gone through a couple of different lives. When you think about when I think the initial thought with Patrick Mahomes is, man, that guy airs it out. And he did when he had Tyree Kill, Travis Kelsey in his prime.
That was the NFL's most explosive offense. Well, Tyree Kill goes to Miami. Patrick Mahomes didn't blink. They ended up winning a Super Bowl by spreading the ball around. Didn't have the big offensive weapons there, but Mahomes would improvise with his legs. Now Kansas City is evolving again. Week one, I know, tiny sample, but what we saw last night is they can win by running the football consistently and having a true 1,000-yard rusher because Mahomes hasn't had that. Pacheco was great. He got tough yards for you. They've had a couple of different incarnations of a running game there. But you think about they've had a passing attack. They've had a really good defense. Now you have Mahomes improvising, and now they're back to playing maybe Andy Reid kind of football of –
Balanced offensively and defensively. And what you saw last night with Kenneth Walker. He's going to break tackles for you. He's built like a guy who is going to be a powerful running back, but he's also very elusive. And Paulie brought up earlier when we were talking before the show, there's a Le'Veon Bell to him. He kind of floats, floats, goes. And when he goes with those jump cuts, he can take it 60 yards as we saw last night. And you can look at this as we normally do. Is it about the Denver defense? Is it about Denver and the defense and who they played last year, who played quarterback against them, and they did not face great quarterbacks? But Mahomes has that ability to evolve. Andy Reid, Eric Bien-Ami back, play calling, and you saw a Kansas City team that looked –
Now, struggling early, but then once they got into a rhythm, then you saw that that was kind of scary because their people still think Kansas City's not going to make the playoffs this year. Mahomes scoring the first touchdown, and who would have thought he'd be on a running play when we were told all offseason he's going to limit the amount of runs. He's not going to run the way he once did. But they continue to evolve, and that's the impressive part of this, but getting Kenneth Walker.
