What is the detection gap in melanoma screening and why do most dermatologists miss it?
I just found a melanoma on a 21-year-old patient on her cheek that looked like a normal mole. Completely normal. Completely benign. So, what is the impact on longevity of melanoma? It is definitely the most significant cause of death.
Most of the sunscreen that you see at the pharmacy has a Prop 65 warning on it that says it likely causes cancer.
Your skin can actually get darker even if you wore sunscreen because visible light can cause your skin to darken.
What tells you if it's melanoma?
You're listening to The Human Upgrade with Dave Asprey.
Every breakthrough in human performance comes down to one thing, just changing your state. And right now, the science and the technology and the ancient practices are converging faster than you realize. For 50 years, bad policy and stigma blocked scientific researchers from studying some of the most powerful tools for the human brain. And that just changed. This October, the researchers, the clinicians, the guys, pioneers in consciousness, tech and psychedelics are all going to be under one roof in Austin. And you can be there, too, with me. For the first time ever, I'm hosting and operating Beyond Wonderland. Two full days where you'll learn the science and the practice of changing your state. And you'll get to talk to the researchers doing it.
You'll learn how these tools unlock a version of yourself you didn't know existed. You'll find talks about altered states with or without the psychedelics, a tech hall where you can try the tools yourself, breakout sessions, breathwork, ceremony, integration circles, and more. This field is moving really fast, and the people who are here in Austin on October 13th and 14th with me are going to be years ahead of everyone who finds out about this later. Learn more. Get your ticket now at wonderlandconference.com.
Want to know which foods and supplements work best for your body? Viome takes the guesswork out of it. Their full body intelligence test reads your RNA, not your DNA, so you see what's happening in your body right now. While standard labs measure around 100 markers, Viome's AI analyzes over 10,000 active pathways across your gut, oral, and cellular health. Then it translates that into personalized food and supplement recommendations built for your unique biology. They'll tell you what foods to eat and which ones to avoid. They even create custom supplements and oral care products based on your results. So what you're getting is what will work for your body, not someone else's. Your results update as your lifestyle changes so your plan evolves with you.

I'm not talking about wrinkles, although I guess we all don't want wrinkles. I'm talking about things like melanoma. And this matters because it's a really misunderstood kind of cancer. And my mother, who passed away actually this year, had melanoma. It's not what was the ultimate cause of her death, but it was a constant worry for her. Her dad had melanoma on his big toe because he got sunburned there a lot. Wait. no you don't get sunburn on your big toe huh it's almost like there might be some things about skin cancer that some of us understand that some don't and our guest is dr michael christopher who's a top board-certified dermatologist who has technology for detection of hundreds of different types of this in a way that's new and interesting so if you want to live a long time not
getting skin cancer or at least getting it and getting rid of it quickly would be a really good thing to do for longevity. And so just like being happy and feeling good and all that. So Michael, welcome to the show. Thanks for having me. And Michael, my grandfather taught me something. I want to just that with you. He said, never trust a man with two first names. So is that, is this Michael Christopher thing ever been a problem for you?
It has not, but I heard that on numerous occasions. But I try to be very trustworthy and honest. So hopefully your audience will feel the same.
