How is the Jaguars’ mindset described as they enter 2026 training camp?

Kainani Stephens 0:16
Welcome back. It's Jags AM. It's the most wonderful time of the year. Not Christmas, but football is back with us as we get excited. Training camp in full swing. We're in day three here at the Miller Electric Center. That's a live look. I'm Kanani Stephens here with you. Brian Sexton, John Ogier are with me. But let's get into our big things right away because we've been waiting for football to be back and it finally is. So big thing number one. is going to be in command. This team really outperforming expectations last year, but by no mean are they resting on their laurels. Head coach Liam Cohen says they're still very much in attack mode.
Liam Coen 0:51
We haven't done anything to rest on our, you know, loyals here. You know, it's just not, we're not in a place to hang out and just kind of chill, right? It's everything we're doing is trying to attack an edge. Last year was about finding an edge and creating an edge. And now we are attacking these edges with a relentless pursuit. And at the end of the day, We know we want to go play anywhere, anytime, anybody, doesn't matter. And our mindset is we got to go prove it and go earn it because consistency is the truest measure of performance at the end of the day. And there's a lot of guys in this locker room that when I took this job have said, man, you know, they brought that up. And how do we become a consistent, respected organization?
Kainani Stephens 1:43
Welcome back, Jags fans. Kai here with Brian and John. We're excited to be back and talking football once again. And as mentioned, I think this has been the mentality all offseason. But nobody here is complacent. Nobody's excited about the AFC South crown. I don't think I've heard about it since that game. They're very much focused on not repeating, but being better.
Brian Sexton 2:03
You know, we were in a meeting last year where Liam stood up and shared his standard for this team, right? It was, we'll compete at a championship level. every day to improve ourselves, our organization, and our city. And when I hear him talking, John, I hear him saying, today, right? Yesterday, we were AFC South champs and we were in the playoffs.

What did Coach Dan Quinn say about maintaining consistency and ‘attacking edges’?

Brian Sexton 2:27
Today, what are we doing? And then tomorrow, he'll say, what are we doing today?
John Oehser 2:32
Yeah, I mean, you get weary of hearing about respect because you hear it all the time. They earned respect last year. Sure. But guess what? In the NFL, you have to earn it again. They've earned respect here in the past, but you have to keep earning it. And, again, it's hard to put this sort of thing – into an anecdote that you can tell people and have them believe, oh, they are focused. But if you've been around it a while, you can feel it. And the obsession all offseason is a positive when I say that. It's been in everybody's walk every time you talk to Liam. I talked to him, I don't know, two or three weeks after the playoff game. I forget exactly when it was. But he was already, look, we didn't –
John Oehser 3:21
Everything has to be in front because if you think about last year at all, you're way behind. And I don't worry about motivation or focus or anything for this team.
Brian Sexton 3:31
Well, listen, you've seen it in the Ozone. You probably heard it from fans when you run into them at Publix. It's 2017 was a one-off. 2022 was a one-off. 2025 was a one-off. What's different about this team? And you just heard it from Liam right there. It isn't about just winning last year. It's about winning every year in those consistent teams. The New England's, the Baltimore's of the world, Pittsburgh, Denver. You have to win every year to be the team that you want to be.
John Oehser 3:59
There's a lot of reason this is different, but we've got four months to talk about those reasons, so we'll get into it.
Kainani Stephens 4:05
Let's talk about one of the other most popular offseason stories, and that's Travis Hunter's rehab process. High flying is our number two big thing today because Travis Hunter very much out there doing his thing on the field right now. Head coach Liam Cohen talked a little bit about what they've seen from him through the rehab process in the offseason and now in training camp.
Liam Coen 4:22
really looking at the reps where where he needs to be now right how do we balance his reps here knowing that we're trying to ease him in but he also at some point needs to get double the amount that a normal player gets and so what does that ramp up look like and we've had we have it all kind of mapped out um till the mock game is really where we have it i mean on every single practice schedule i mean he's
