Is the offense heading in the right direction after the joint practice?
Okay, gotcha. Alright, Liam uh two joint practices in the books. From a schematic standpoint, are you satisfied with the direction that this offense is heading so far?
Yeah, I thought today was a good step in the right direction um in terms of running the football and getting stuff targeted and and communicated the the right way. I was pleased with the way the backs were hitting the holes. Um you know, still tough to evaluate the second and third level, like if what the yards actually come out to be. Uh but I was pleased with at least the line of scrimmage at times. Um, you know, they've got some guys up front. that I have a lot of respect for on their D line and I thought our guys played hard. What did you think about just the physicality you guys showed today? Yeah, I think that's kind of what we challenged them with a little bit. You know, to come out and you know, set a tone and come out and play fast instead of, all right, we got to get punched in the mouth and then we respond.
So that was nice to see us be able to come out and start fast.
Is it still trending toward Friday night for stars? Yeah, I'm not sure.
I gotta see how we came out of today. Um you know, I I wanna I don't wanna say either way yet, 'cause I I really gotta go look at this tape, see how we kinda come out of it. Um I'll make a probably a decision, you know, over the next twenty four hours. Is
it things about health or is it? Yeah, like I don't wanna
necessarily go out there, you know, with not your full group, right? Like the whole point of it is to try to get more continued continuity and and chemistry and uh some game experience. So I'm just not quite sure yet.
You mentioned the run game. Where did your initial I don't wanna say appreciation, but emphasis for run and start as a play caller? Man.
Probably as a kid, like growing up in the wing tea the wishbone. Um growing up in that, uh my dad, you know, when I was young I mean that's what we he did. They ran the heck out of it. Uh we ran the heck out of it in high school.
How did the team’s physicality and line play impact today’s practice?
Um a lot of schemes actually still carry over. And then, you know, coming up in in college too. I mean Coach Paccucci, Brian Paccucci being RO line coach at the time, we were cannon runs, Oscars, alerts, kills. So like I had to be on it. Our guys had to be on the screws. And and it just gave me a appreciation for what it can do for the quarterback, you know, and what it can do for the pass game. And so as much as you wanna, this is a throwing league, right? You you have to be able to throw the football, protect the quarterback, um, and and finish in the red zone. two minute throwing the football, but I know that as a quarterback it's nice to turn around and say like whew, give me a beat here and and let somebody else do something here.
And I think that that it's always been instilled in me from a from a young age.
Like Tanner and Nate made some plays in passing.
What are your impressions just since they've gone here since May and kind of the growth they've shown? Yeah, I think they've grown for sure. Um, you know, I think obviously for Tanner, being a quasi-receiver in college was something that we were uh excited about seeing and curious to see, and and we uh we thought, okay, he just wasn't really in some of those positions. Does he have the makeup and the want to? Like that's That's really what it comes down to. And um you know they've both done a nice job. I think we have a we need to clean up a couple things technique wise and sustaining, getting outside of our frame a little bit, getting a little grabby. Bork had the one penalty. Uh I know he was trying to be physical, but just kind of know when to let go and know when to kind of get your hands refit, some of that stuff, but um you know I've been pleased with him.
You just took something from the red zone game, this second joint that you've been pretty good in it.
I mean, I thought we were pretty good the back half of the year in the red zone. I think we finished in the top five in the NFL. Um, but you know, I think that it also helps when the quarterback can run.
