Why was I skeptical about consistency?
I used to be convinced that the power of consistency was utter BS. I used to think that people would just say that as a, oh, well, how did I get successful? Oh, consistency. Even though they got lucky or they had some kind of nepo baby situation where they were getting millions of dollars. But I remember that my opinion on this changed. When honestly, my friend checked me about my constant complaining about my weight. I was, you know, making really self-deprecating jokes about how I was fat. I was ugly. I'm never going to find love. The whole nine yards. And I really believed it. Because I was just like, I was just not happy with the fact that I was not treating my body in a very good and sustainable way.
I was binge eating a lot. I was, you know, man, I would buy like a family, family size Chex Mix and down it, you know, while watching YouTube. And do I have any complaints about that time? No, that was like awesome, bro. Coming back to your dorm room and Eating a whole family bag of Chex Mix is like top five human experiences of all time. I'll say it. I'll sit here and say it. You don't want to admit it, I'll admit it. It's goaded. And in the same way that it's goaded, it is so detrimental to your mental and to who you are as a person. Because... Sucks it sucks when you realize that you can't have you know boundaries You can't set real boundaries for yourself, and that's how I knew it was a problem So one day my friend was like listen.
I don't like the fact that you keep making these jokes about yourself It's really making me concerned that you know you feel bad about your weight, and I was like well I do I I don't care, but I do. And he's like, yeah, but I think that this is ridiculous that you just keep making fun of it and you don't do anything about it. It's one thing. You can do whatever you want, but if you genuinely want to change and you have these feelings about your body, you should do something about it. And that really caught me off guard. I was like, dang. No, no, that's not true. You know, it's just I can't really change because and I started to list a whole bunch of excuses. I was like, I don't know, my body is different.
And, you know, oh, well, I'm eating really good. It's only a matter of time. And he's like, yeah, you are eating really good when you get invited to go out somewhere and you're ordering an appetizer, an on course and a dessert. Of course, you're eating very well, but you're not eating good. And I tried to argue with him. I was just like, what are you talking about, bro? Like, no, you're a hater. Like, why are you hating on me? And I remember he was like, listen, I don't care what you do, but I think that if you really want it, you would do it in a way that was sustainable and good. And you would do it in a way that built momentum. What are you talking about? One, you don't know me. Two, momentum for what?
And he explained to me, he's like, dude, I try to eat the same kind of thing every single day just so I have some kind of predictability. I try to build my diet in a way that gets me the most protein and I don't have to think as much as when I don't have a plan. And it was observing him the next couple of days when he went through his routine that made me realize, wait a minute. Momentum is power. Momentum is power. Respectfully, there are a lot of people that give up on their goals, give up on other people, give up on themselves because they're not consistent enough to build momentum. And momentum is important because that is the evidence that whatever you're doing is working. And I think that one of the problems is we try to create a very complicated explanation for what working is.
It's that, oh, if I don't make a certain amount of money this month, it means it's not working. And although that might be true, okay, sure, it's not the end-all be-all. Or, oh, if I don't lose X amount of pounds this month, it means that my journey is not working. And I think that it's important to keep stock of how you're doing. You should definitely...
