For me, I did about maybe a thousand plus breathwork journeys over a few year period.
And that was my way of like going through the emotional debt and also exploring my own kind of responses and learning how to safely feel certain emotions again.
So I realized that I had had a...
I'd equated anger with being bad or wrong.
And so kind of making that feel safe again in my system.
But I think absolutely, I mean, having some kind of semi-regular time in the same way that we have hygiene, you know, we see a dentist, a bad example, dentist every few months.
But having every few weeks or certainly at least once a month time to just feel accumulated emotions in your system.
is incredibly helpful and it avoids that kind of like feather brick dump truck scenario in the future yeah just like throw it in the truck yeah but but it applies to the you know we've talked about you know huge things like grief and a traumatic birth but it applies to the small things as well it applies to like conflict or arguments or just having a really shitty day
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Well, so maybe firstly, I'll mention the other two skills, which just again, is helpful context.
One is self-regulation, which...
Many people are probably familiar with various, so I think about three categories of self-regulation.
One is top-down, one is bottom-up, and one is outside-in.
So top-down is things like cognitive reframes.
It's like using your mind to down-regulate your state, telling yourself a more optimistic story, CBT, all that kind of stuff, journaling.
all that kind of stuff.
And the goal is to take yourself from a dysregulated reactive state into a more grounded present state where you can kind of be with your sensations without checking out or being overwhelmed.
Bottom-up practices are things like
anything that leverages your physiology or your breath to change your state.
And typically, if the goal is to go from I'm super triggered or reactive to I want to feel grounded and calm, the bottom-up practices are way more efficient.
