And so it's almost like a balance of being grounded enough to feel but not so regulated that you just lose connection with the emotion.
And there's something that I think about called the self-regulation paradox, where people will use things like breathwork or yoga or things that are really healthy to self-regulate away their emotions.
And it's basically an advanced form of emotional repression.
And fine for a period of time, but it doesn't help to relieve that accumulated emotional debt over time.
It's probably a healthy repression response as far as they go.

Everyone has a different way in, I think.
Some people, I find, people who are very intellectual, very in their head, sometimes internal family systems or parts work can be really helpful, where you notice the...
the emotion or you notice the story and then you ask, okay, where in my body does this feel connected to?
And once you can identify what they call a part, you can then begin to just be curious about it.
And I think that's really the entry point is going in with a sense of courageous curiosity without trying to fix or change or feel it so that it goes away, basically, which is just kind of another form of repression.
It can be really helpful to do this with someone else in the beginning, especially if you're someone who isn't, you know, used to feeling your emotions.
You know, we mentioned the groundbreakers retreat before, like that's great because you're around a group of people who are both doing this as well.
And there's also skilled facilitators who can help to hold you if something really intense comes up.
So doing it with a somatic practitioner or a therapist one-on-one in person is probably the ideal situation.
But there's loads of ways that you can do it on your own in kind of small micro doses as well.
One that I love is I call it somatic surfing.
