That's the way to combat it.
Sometimes it's really simple like logistics.
They just may not have met the right person.
Sometimes we can be dating but be closed in our mind or our heart because we're worried or anxious.
We might not want to feel vulnerable.
We might be afraid of being hurt.
Some folks are scared of intimacy or nervous around sex.
Some people may have a trauma background.
Others may have had a family that haven't modeled loving relationships.
Some people might need a sort of friendship or a connection first before they decide they want to dive into a relationship.
Some folks are really worried about loss of freedom.
Look at culture all around us.
We're full of poetry and songs and writings all about love over the ages.
So it seems to be something that's definitely withstood the test of time.
And there's a lot of societal pressure.
I talk to my clients about a thing called the relationship escalator.
which is you know when people see us they ask us questions that kind of push us onto this escalator of a way that we must act and be so it's like oh you know when are you going to get a boyfriend or girlfriend you know when are you going to find a partner and then it's like oh when are you going steady when are you getting engaged when are you going to be serious when might you move in together when are you going to have kids you know that people are constantly in their
genuinely friendly inquiries kind of pushing everyone up a level, up a level, up a level.
There seems to be this pressure that this is what everybody has to do.
Whereas I think we can design our own relationships.
