Hello my friend and welcome to Catch Up with Louise McSharry. This is the podcast where I do my best to keep you caught up with what's going on in the world. On Monday we talk news, on Wednesday entertainment and on Friday we are chatting reality TV which means today it's time to talk about reality television. As you know, one of my favorite things to talk about. And I guess we'll start in the world of reality TV news. Big Emmy nominations out this week. The awards shows, they never end. You know, they really and truly never end. You always think they're over, and then there are more. Summer House, nominated for an Emmy, big deal. They've not been nominated for an Emmy before, and it's been really exciting to see the cast kind of posting about it.

Frankly, I think, like, really deserved. This season of Summer House was incredible, not just because... of the drama that was happening outside, but just the actual series itself is great. And then obviously the way that they managed the drama and the way they did the follow-up to the reunion and managed the reunion, I think it absolutely deserved an Emmy nomination. And I'm super excited about it. Like reality TV has been relevant to these kinds of Emmys for quite a while now. It's not new for shows like this to be nominated, but they have not before. So it's in the Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program category, which is, you know, thrilling. Elsewhere in the Emmy nominations. Ariana Maddox got nominated for Love Island USA.

So you probably know, but just in case you don't, Ariana was at the center of the Scandival drama. And she went on to have an absolutely enormous career outside of reality TV. She is the host of Love Ireland, Love Ireland, Love Island, that would be a different show. Love Island USA. And she is now nominated in outstanding host for a reality or reality competition program. So like she's nominated alongside people like RuPaul for Drag Race, Alan Cumming for The Traders, Kristen Kish from Top Chef and Jeff Probst from Survivor. So it's pretty big deal, like pretty big deal and has to be really thrilling for someone like Ariana. Like Ariana does that. She also is an actor. She was always an actor, even when she was on Vanderpump Rules, she was an actor or someone who was trying to act and she's on a TV series now.

She's got a lot of cool stuff going on and I am happy for her. Also, last week after I recorded, I realized I forgot to talk about an absolutely enormous story from the world of reality TV. And that is that Layla from Secret Lives of Mormon Wives came out as bisexual. She was on the June 29th episode of Jay Shetty's podcast On Purpose. And she said, it's just something I honestly didn't really know how to formally address for a long period of my life. She said, we're only on this earth for however long we are here. And I'll be damned if I'm not able to fully be who I am.

I don't know. I just feel like I'm finally in the era that I'm over not being truly myself and I'm over not showing every part of Layla to the world. And yeah, I'm very proud to be bi and I'm very proud now to be out.

And also, I think it's like... Really important to have that kind of representation on shows like The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, which obviously are theoretically rooted in kind of traditional family values and culture. And, you know, she's been so well supported seemingly from the outside by the other cast members. I think it's a really wonderful thing. She's been posting quite a lot now. She's been doing a lot of kind of. I think she said she's bisexual. She also referred to herself as gay within that episode and she's been posting a lot of lesbian kind of TikToks, like, you know, lesbian trend TikToks. So she's certainly leaning in. She has, she is dating someone specifically. She has been posting photographs or videos, excuse me, of her like holding hands with someone off camera.
