Why do I feel disconnected from myself even when life seems fine?

Marie Mota-Lee 0:00
There's a moment I think many of us recognize when everything in life looks fine, but something inside feels slightly off. Not enough to explain. Maybe just enough to notice. You know, you're going through your day, doing what needs to be done, and still wondering how Why do I feel this way when nothing is wrong? If you've ever had that quiet disconnect between your life and yourself, this conversation is for you. Come on in, it's time to choose happy. Wherever you are, whatever kind of day you're having, this is your reminder. You have a choice. If you're ready to break free from self-doubt and negative thinking, you're in the right place. Hi, I'm Marie, and this is the Choose Happy With Me podcast. Welcome.

Hello and welcome back to the Choose Happy with Marie podcast. I am so glad you're here. I hope you're doing well. I don't know where you're listening th to this show today. Maybe you're out for a walk. Maybe you're driving to the cottage. Maybe you're sitting in your backyard with your Morning coffee before everyone else wakes up. I know I really love that moment. Summer has a way of giving us little pockets of quiet that the rest of the year doesn't always allow. And it's in those quiet moments that something interesting can happen. You finally hear yourself. Or maybe You notice that you can't. I was thinking about this the other day. It was one of those beautiful summer evenings, you know, the kind where
Marie Mota-Lee 1:55
The air is warm. You know, the garden has been watered and everything on my to-do list was done for the day. That's a great feeling. And I finally sat down with a cup of tea. Nothing was wrong. Actually, if I'm being honest, a lot of things were right. The people I love were doing well, my work was moving along. The sun was shining and It was one of those moments where I looked around and thought This is a good life.

How can I choose happiness when I’m feeling that inner disconnect?

Marie Mota-Lee 2:31
And yet There was this quiet feeling inside me that I couldn't quite explain. It wasn't sadness. It wasn't necessarily burnout, although there's a little bit of that. Not even unhappiness, but just this subtle feeling that somewhere along the way, I drifted away from myself. And I wonder if you've ever had a moment like that. Maybe you look around at your life and you think, I should feel happier than I do. Or maybe it's why do I feel so restless when everything everything's actually okay? It can be such a confusing feeling because There's nothing obvious that we can point to. Not necessarily there's something falling apart. Maybe there's no crisis per se. And we know we have so much to be grateful for. And sometimes it's actually because of that that we start feeling guilty for feeling the way that we do.
Marie Mota-Lee 3:43
We may think that What's wrong with me? Why can't I just enjoy my life? Over the years I've had so many women say some version of those exact words to me. They would say things like, Marie, my life is good, my family's good, my job is fine. I should be happy. So why do I feel like something is missing? I don't think they're really asking what's wrong with their lives. I think they're asking something much deeper. Why do I feel disconnected from myself even when nothing is obviously wrong? And I want you to know something before we go any further. If you've ever felt that way, I want you to know you're not alone. Because what I've come to understand is that sometimes the reason we don't feel like ourselves isn't because we've built the wrong life.
Marie Mota-Lee 4:48
It's because we have slowly lost connection with ourselves inside the life that we've built. And that's what I want to talk about today. When I think about the women I've coached over the years and honestly, the woman that I've been myself at different seasons of my life, I've noticed something. Very few of us walk around saying, I feel disconnected from myself. Maybe you have. Those aren't usually the words we use. Instead, we he'll say things like I don't know what's wrong with me today. I've lost my motivation. I just feel off. I'm in such a funk.

What does emotional disconnection actually feel like in everyday moments?

Marie Mota-Lee 5:38
I don't even know what I want anymore. Or maybe the one that I hear most often is. I should be happy.
