Why do I overthink every decision instead of trusting myself?
Have you ever noticed that sometimes the quietest places make the loudest thoughts show up? Maybe you're listening to this on your way to the campground for the weekend. Maybe you're sitting beside a lake with your morning coffee. Watching the water before everyone else wakes up. Or maybe you're finally taking a vacation that you've been looking forward to for months. You thought getting away and going on vacation would quiet your mind. Instead, you're finding yourself replaying conversations, questioning decisions, and wondering if you're doing enough. If that sounds familiar, this episode is for you. Today, we're talking about why we overthink and why the answer. Isn't learning to think less. It's actually learning to hear yourself again.
Come on in, it's time to choose happy. Wherever you are, whatever kind of day you're having, this is your reminder. You have a choice. If you're ready to break free from self-doubt and negative thinking, you're in the right place. Hi, I'm Marie, and this is the Choose Happy With Me podcast. Welcome. Hello and welcome back to Choose Happy With Marie. I am so glad you're here. If you're listening when this episode comes out, we're right in the middle of summer. Maybe you're driving to the cottage, heading out to a campground, or spending time at the lake, or simply enjoying a slower morning on your back deck with a cup of coffee. Summer has a way of inviting us to slow down. The calendar isn't quite as full, but
The evenings feel a little longer, but We spend more time outside. And sometimes, for the first time in months, everything around us becomes quiet. But have you ever noticed something interesting? Sometimes it's in those quiet moments that our minds become the loudest. I was thinking about this recently and imagine sitting around a campfire. After everyone had gone to bed, The fire has settled into glowing embers and You know the sounds of the day have faded.
What does it feel like when quiet moments trigger loud thoughts?
And you can hear the breeze moving through the trees. It's so peaceful. It's exactly the kind of moment you've been craving. And then your mind starts talking. Did I make the right decision at work? Should I have said something differently to my friend? What if I disappoint someone? Am I doing enough? Am I where I'm supposed to be by now? And it's almost as if Once the outside world becomes quiet and The inside world finally has room to speak and Or maybe it has been speaking all along. We've just been too busy to notice, said If I'm being honest, for a long time, I thought overthinking meant that there was something wrong with me. I thought it meant that I wasn't confident enough. That I wasn't decisive enough.
But everyone else somehow knew how to make decisions without replaying every possible outcome in their head. But what I've come to understand is something very different. Overthinking isn't a sign that there's something wrong with us. It's often a sign. that we've been disconnected from ourselves. And that's what I want to explore with you today. Not how to force your thoughts to stop because they are gonna keep going. Not how to make perfect decisions. That's not real. but how to begin hearing yourself again. Because I think that's where self-trust begins and that's where overthinking can end. I want to tell you something that I hope will feel like a little bit of relief. I don't think you're bad at making decisions.
I don't think you're incapable of trusting yourself.
How does over‑thinking reveal a disconnect from our inner voice?
And I definitely don't think you're overthinking because you're weak or because there's something wrong with you. I think you've been trying to make good decisions for a very long time. You've been trying to be thoughtful, said Responsible, kind. You've wanted to make choices that wouldn't hurt anyone. Choices that you wouldn't regret. Choices that would keep the people you love happy and the life you've worked so hard to build on track. Of course you think things through. I do too. That's not the problem. Well, I don't think it is. I think the problem is that somewhere along the way around Thinking became the only place that you looked for answers.
