What are the hosts introducing and why does this episode focus on IPOs?
Hey, this is Allie, and thanks for listening to the show. Give us a five-star review where you listen and share this episode with someone who might need to hear it. Now, enjoy the show.
Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen. You're listening to another edition of DIY Money. DIY Money.
Are you a little rusty over there, Clint?
Rusty? Are you kidding me? I am not rusty. Rusty, come on up here. I am fired up. Yes, I am fired up. I'm glad to be back on the couch and cutting DIY Monies for the podcast. I'm jazzed, to say the least.
So for context, we tricked you guys a little bit. Quint's been gone for a while. We did talk about that. But every once in a while, we've interjected a little cue in here. A little cue. Everybody loves a little cue here and there. So Quint has been gone for how many weeks? Four weeks? Five. Five weeks. I feel like I don't even recognize you.
It is a long, long time. And in my world, as we're cutting this right now, it's 3.43. And I've been up since 3 a.m. Because I'm like, I got home yesterday. I'm still six hours ahead. So it's like 9.45 in my world. And I'm starting to drag a little bit. So we need to get the move on here. But it was an amazing experience. The timing couldn't have been better. So as you know, I stepped away, retired from the advisory business. And then within a week, I hopped on a plane with 19 University of Kentucky students to study abroad. I take the same class that I teach at the university during the semester. I condense it into a three-week period. And I teach it abroad. At the same time, we visit businesses. We do all the wonderful things that are to do in both Florence and Milan.
We had an exceptional time. I love... I'll tell you, Allie, and I know you get the opportunity to do this to a small degree. And I also know you do this through DIY. But I really hope you get an opportunity to do this later on in your life. And that is pour into young people. Because when you pour into young people, the energy you receive in return... is far greater than what you are pouring out. And I'll tell you, that is the same that happened to me spending time with these young people, being enthused, just energetic. It was absolutely amazing. Okay, boomer. And of course, Italy is Italy. It's my happy place.
You were meant to live in Italy.
I... Could easily live in Italy. And, you know, my challenge is I don't know the language. I pick up more and more every time I go. I can like order things and I can converse like politely. And I know my buddy Ernie's listening to this right now. He's like, you can't talk Italian and I can't. Okay, I know that. But I'm getting a little bit better. And I will tell you, I was more motivated this time. I am going to hit the books or download the podcast or figure it out. I did Duolingo for like 200 days one time and I learned basically nothing. No knock against them. Then after the students, my family, the reason it was so long, my family then flew over. We spent an additional two weeks. The part of that, that was more exhausting than the students because I shifted from like living and working in Italy, like literally every day, breakfast, class, lunch, some work time.
You know, it was like we maybe had a tour or whatever, but it was pretty laid back. to being a tourist in Europe, which is like hop on the train, hop on the bus, hop on the ferry, hop on the bus, hop on the train. Where's the Metro? Where times a train leaving? It was crazy. And, and that was exhausting. So got home yesterday, but all in all an amazing experience. The passport is,
What personal updates and travel experiences does Quint share before the IPO discussion?
If you have the ability to do it, the passport is one of your greatest assets you have, the ability to experience the world, see other cultures, and more than likely, you will do what I did, which is come home with a new appreciation for the United States of America and the amazing country that we have. Despite our challenges here and there and everywhere, we have an amazing country. All right. I know we're going to do something a little bit different today. It's Wednesday when you're listening to this.
