Matt, oh, man, we are in different times. This is a different regime, isn't it, under Stan Bowman and Jeff Jackson. No better illustration, and maybe you can explain to our listeners what happened to start overtime the other night with Bakersfield and who was on the ice. Oh, yes.
I mean, for sure. Let's start with different regime. You know, the organization, which, you know, is really come under Stan Bowman. They've spent a bunch more money on development. And I think they've surrounded the group in the HL, the coaching staff, with some support groups. there and then I think what they've also done is create a mindset with that coaching staff about what's the priority and where they should be focused and it should be on development of players and consequently in a very big game against a very hot team in Henderson when they went to overtime William Nichol ended up starting three-on-three in overtime. And, I mean, that is just something that didn't exist in prior regimes.
You know, Bruce, I know we met, oh, geez, it would have been during Noah Phelps' first year in Bakersfield. But we'd met online long before that. And I know we both had the same frustrations. And I'm not going to be disrespectful to Ken Holland. Ken Holland had the second-best record in the Western Conference the five years that he ran the Edmonton Oilers. He did a good job with the NHL team, but he really kind of, I will debate that. I don't know if there was a plan for the American Hockey League. You know what I mean? He gave a lot of latitude to the coaching staff. At one point that year, Noah Philp was playing left wing to start the year. Then he was a healthy scratch. Then by the end of the year, he became their most valuable forward down the final 20 games of the year.
And I had pro scouts and other teams going, where in the hell did you guys find Noah Philp from? Because that guy is going to get games in the NHL. And actually, Brad Malone had told me that within the first week of Noah being in the Bakersfield the year before after he finished up the U of A. But the point of this is, is Colin Chalk as a coach has grown here too. And you look at yesterday, the American Hockey League, Bruce, named... named their all-rookie team, and not one, but two. Now, part of this is who Stan and Kelly Larson and those guys put into Bakersfield, but the other part of it is how the coaching staff has deployed those players. We've seen them with Savoy last year, and now both Quinn Hudson and Isaac Howard are two of the three forwards on the all-rookie team.
