Chapter 1: What does Bob Stauffer share about last night's game?

0.031 - 22.339 Bob Stauffer

Hey, it's Bob Stauffer. I just wanted to let you know that you can listen to Oilers Now ad-free on Amazon Music, included with Prime. And welcome back, everybody. It is 4.35 in oil country. Bob Stauffer along with Aidan Ganim and Jeff Walker and Kellen Kennedy and Eamon Hashim and Cast of the Thousands.

0

22.819 - 40.628 Bob Stauffer

Just before we get into the odors now, out of your vault from last night, I want to get to a few more texts that have come in on the Ashley Pine Forest text line. Bruno from Toronto says, Bob, the odors giving up three goals in the second period was a blessing. An early wake-up call to remind a team that you can't get complacent the first period was too easy.

0

41.15 - 69.597 Bob Stauffer

I expect the Oilers to play the right way for a full 60 tomorrow night. Well, I think that's a valid point, to say the least. Bob, this text comes to us from Aaron down in Hanna, Alberta. In regards to Jason from Sangudo's text about sending me a stripper gram. Bob, clearly you haven't seen these strippers in Sangudo, have you? From Aaron in Hannah. Well, okay.

0

70.118 - 85.675 Bob Stauffer

How far is Sangudo from the beach, from Lake Wabamon? I don't think I've ever told this story on the air. I'd say it's like a half hour, Bob. It's about a half hour? Yeah, I'd say about a half hour. Sangudo's about a half hour from Lake Wabamon? I'd say about that.

Chapter 2: What insights do listeners provide about the Oilers' performance?

87.123 - 118.638 Bob Stauffer

HMCS Nonsuch, that was the name of our naval unit. And no, this is not naval gazing, okay? Circa 1983, Student Youth Employment Program. And so there were two different crews, and we competed against each other, and then we rotated when we stayed out at the barracks out at Lake Wabamon. It was co-ed. We were like, you know, some of us, I was like, well, we were the youngest ones there.

0

118.698 - 133.21 Bob Stauffer

Myself, a guy named Brandon, Lindsay and Andrew. The three of us were the only 17 year olds. Everybody else was already in university. So we had a lot of fun that summer. And Did I see any stripper grams? Technically, no.

0

133.531 - 158.872 Bob Stauffer

But let's just say there was some stupid shenanigans that went on over the course of, like, stuff that, you know, would be low-grade sort of, not even a B movie, like a C movie stuff that we had. Because it was, anyways, it was, I know that you had to be able to go out in the middle of the lake and then swim. And, I mean, I was a lot lighter.

0

158.892 - 179.32 Bob Stauffer

Then now I'd have no problem because I'd just be able to float forever, right? So, anyhow. And that was the year. Actually, can you cue up sailing by Christopher Cross for me as I continue down this path? Do you have any idea what I'm talking about at all? It was not smooth sailing last night for the Edmonton Hunters, by the way, just to set the record straight. But they did get the victory.

0

179.4 - 203.328 Bob Stauffer

They came back. And no, they didn't come sail away with me with sticks, though they used their sticks to ultimately win the game. How about the play that Drysaddle made at the blue line? Basically beat three guys, then got the puck back behind the net, cycled it around, and then a great pass from Podkolzin in front to Kapanen. But since you asked, no, I've not seen any strippers in Sangudo.

203.969 - 207.833 Bob Stauffer

Then there was the song from, was it General Hospital?

Chapter 3: How does Bob respond to texts regarding the Oilers' strategy?

208.808 - 223.167 Bob Stauffer

Hey, Laura, or the Laura? That was the other one that Christopher Cross did that was super big in the early 1980s. This is like two decades before you were born, right, Aiden? This is impressive that you even know what we're talking about here.

0

223.187 - 226.191 Aidan Ganim

I was trained well by the old man. Were you? That's where I give the credit to.

0

226.471 - 238.647 Bob Stauffer

So where would you rank, since you were trained well with the old man, where would you rank Larry Playfair up against Terry O'Reilly for who the better heavyweight was going to be? Your dad's going to say it was O'Reilly, but Playfair, he was a killer for Buffalo, guys.

0

238.627 - 245.388 Aidan Ganim

Yeah, he was super tough. I liked what Berkey said with Bugard. He was a mean, mean guy. He was a tough dude.

0

245.549 - 273.987 Bob Stauffer

Well, but he also saw... Bugar dismantled a couple guys in Anaheim. Bad. Real bad. Right? I know he got the fridge. He got Todd Fedorek one time. He also absolutely crushed. Who was the guy that he crushed? I think he ended up with the Islanders for a while later on in his career. But earlier, this guy had just been recalled from the minors. Go back to the 05-06 team if you can hop on Hockey TV.

274.067 - 274.507 Bob Stauffer

We'll do that.

Chapter 4: What memories does Bob share about his past experiences?

274.928 - 297.287 Bob Stauffer

People can jump aboard Texas on the Ashley Fine Forest text line. You know what? Anyways, to answer your question, no, I've not seen any strippers from Sangudo. But I have been to – there used to be a bar we went to. And, of course, I'm now admitting that I may have been a little bit younger than some of the other people in my crew at that time.

0

298.01 - 321.349 Bob Stauffer

Yeah, Bugaard literally dropped the guy that had been recalled from the minor. It might have been Trevor Gillies. Trevor Gillies was the guy. That's who it was. It was bad. Like, just right in front of Chris Pronger. Like, just boom. But you know who had no problem with Derek Bugaard at all? George. George LaRock never had any problem whatsoever with Derek Bugard. All right.

0

321.751 - 333.517 Bob Stauffer

It is 4.41 oil country. Let's get the show back on the rails here. Here we go. Well, hold off. Did you end up finding the Hey Laura song, by the way? Did you dig that one up?

0

333.737 - 335.46 Jeff Walker

Oh, yeah, I've got that ready to go for you, Bob.

0

335.72 - 368.443 Bob Stauffer

Do you want that now or do you want that coming back? Well, no, it reminds me of more Christopher Cross stuff. Bring it. I mean, because he was... Now, I can tie this back to sports. Which prominent NFL star of the 1980s Did Christopher Cross often wear a jersey of? Which prominent NFL star of the early 80s? Player, prominent player.

369.885 - 398.943 Bob Stauffer

And for those of you that are into super 70s on sport on Twitter, it's this guy's favorite player of all time. So they shared that together. Prominent NFL star Christopher Cross on more than one occasion was adorned in this guy's football jersey back in the day. Again, you can text us at any time. Coach Al says Bob Probert, Dave Semenko in later years.

399.003 - 422.829 Bob Stauffer

Well, Dave got worked over in later years by Bob Probert because Probert was an absolute machine when he came in. Dave Semenko, early 1980s, didn't lose very often, but... He didn't have the great endurance. I got about four guys texting me directly, you cannot win. That's not even trivia. My main man, Mitch, out of Westlock, saying, Bob, you're talking toughest guys ever. What about Dave Brown?

422.889 - 453.499 Bob Stauffer

Well, except probably dropped him one time. So, but Dave Brown was as tough as there was. There's no question. T-Hups has pulled Earl Campbell. That is the jersey that Christopher Cross often wore when he performed. Again, you can text us 780-451-8800. Coach L says, Bob, Larry Playfair once beat Dave Semenko. That is true. Larry Playfair beat Dave Semenko in the early 1980s. Uh,

453.479 - 477.175 Bob Stauffer

uh bob for the record uh just remember sanguto is four beers away from wabamon that one comes to us from jason as long as you're not driving okay there we go we got like dan from sanguto and jason from sanguto how many more people are out in that sanguto like what what what are we looking at there this is from your neck of the woods right jeff

Chapter 5: What were the highlights of the Oilers vs. Ducks game?

631.443 - 654.234 Bob Stauffer

This just got passed along to me courtesy of Cactus Jack. The reason why Christopher Cross wore the Earl Campbell jersey was he was great friends with Gordon Red Batty, who at the time was the Houston Oilers equipment manager. Red Batty came from the Montreal Alouettes. He's the guy that put the staples in the Alouettes cleats in the 1977 Grey Cup. He then went to work for the Houston Oilers.

0

654.535 - 679.443 Bob Stauffer

But many of you who have been to Green Bay Driving around right now in Edmonton because there's a lot of Eskimo and football fans from back in the day that went to go see the Green Bay Packers. Red Batty worked for the Green Bay Packers for like 20 to 25 years. I'm pretty sure Red Batty's son is an equipment guy currently working in the American Hockey League. or in an AHL market as we speak.

0

679.945 - 693.136 Bob Stauffer

And he hooked up Christopher Cross with the Earl Campbell jersey. Those Houston Letters jerseys of the, like when Warren, they had style of jerseys. They're like the Quebec Nordiques jerseys. So was it Carla Bonoff?

0

Chapter 6: What are the key player performances from the game?

693.176 - 707.36 Bob Stauffer

Is that who it was? You got it, Bob. Yeah, there we go. I thought that's who it was. I just. I have to remember back to had a little pink flamingo on the Christopher Cross album back in the day. All right, let's get to it. We will tell you the orders now.
