Coming up today, we look back at last night's epic Champions League semi-final, which saw PSG beat Bayern Munich 5-4 in Paris. Arsenal are in Madrid to take on Atletico in tonight's semi-final, but they'll have to do without one of their key strikers. And Kieran McKenna's Ipswich take another step closer to a Premier League return. But first, European champions PSG will take a slender one-goal lead to Munich next week. for the second leg of their Champions League semi-final against Bayern. Luis Enrique's side won 5-4 despite going behind to a Harry Kane penalty.
PSG took the lead thanks to goals from Kovicik, Varetskelje and Gilles Neves. Michael Alisse equalised for the German champions. However, PSG were awarded a controversial penalty before half-time It was put away by Ousmane Dembele. PSG scored another two to go. 5-2 up in the second half. Dembele and Gavarit Skellige got their second of the night each. But Vincent Kompany's men came roaring back with goals from Deo Upamecano and Luis Diaz.
What happened in the PSG vs Bayern Munich Champions League match?
After the game, Kompany, who had to watch from the stands due to a touchline ban, said they could have scored more goals.
A bit different for me. I was next to all of your colleagues. I was in the press box. I would have preferred to be on the pitch. I would have preferred to be... Going with the emotion of the game as well and trying to help, trying to give him something. But I thought the staff did fantastic. Aaron Danks at the front and René Maric, Florian Gallula, Dan Fradley. All these guys, the whole team, they did really well to prepare the team. And then the energy didn't change. The energy was there. We suffered, but also we were dangerous. So it's one thing to look at the goals conceded, which... normally five goals away from home in Champions League semi-final, you're out. But if you look at the chances actually we created, we could have scored more.
And that has to give us belief.
Bayern striker Harry Kane said some of the defensive work on show was top-notch despite nine goals being scored in Paris.
Even though there's nine goals scored today, I think there was amazing defending throughout the game. 1v1 battles. Look, you've got the best players in the world going at it. The best attackers, the best defenders. Of course, sometimes the attackers are going to come out on top and show their quality like both teams did today. But when you go back and actually look at the centre-halves playing in midfield, playing in attack sometimes, playing out wide against the wingers, credit to them because it's a really hard job. I thought that was outstanding today.
How did Harry Kane's penalty impact the match's momentum?
PSG captain Marquinhos says fine details will decide the outcome of the second leg next week. And the details, you do the difference in the next game. So we need to go there with the same mentality, the same personality. So we can do an amazing job there, like we did here. I think everyone sees how difficult this type of game is against Bayern. We need to do a lot of effort, a lot of good job to win this game. Now we need to rest a little bit because this game is making us tired and then prepare for the next game because it's a key game.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has urged his side to deliver a statement win away to Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their semi-final tonight. The Premier League leaders are aiming to win the competition for the first time and reach a final for the first time in 20 years. Arteta says his players have earned their place and insist they're ready for the challenge in Madrid.
This is the stage that we want to be and we have earned it through incredible work, passion and quality in the last nine months. And now is the moment to make an statement and show how good we are, how much we want it and make it happen.
