oh gosh look i'm not gonna um give julie a big head here but julie van was always amazing from the from the underage squads all the way through she you know she went over above on the pitch anything you wanted she she she did and yeah she's just an amazing player to coach and what a talented player as well and you know did great for the irish team so she can be very proud of her career and i was very proud to coach her julian you might have to return the compliment here

I was going to say it was a pleasure to watch last night, but I don't want to be leaving with the moral defeat, you know, it was courageous and all that, because let's be clear, Carla Ward is gutted with this result.

I actually think she said that gutted was an understatement to describe her emotions at full time. Julianne, did the display surprise you against France? Was this in us to do this? Did we overperform? What are you kind of feeling this morning having slept on it?
I was just saying to Sue there I'm devastated for the girls because I thought we performed so well I was saying sometimes we would have a half a chance and we're kind of scrambling like oh we had kind of had this chance and that but we genuinely had a lot of chances and we just weren't clinical enough at times and as the girls were saying kind of post interview we really kind of threw it away to them I feel like we deserved a draw at a minimum, but it was really promising to see them having such a threat going forward. And obviously defensively, that's something that we're so strong at. It's great to see that we did so well there, but it was obviously those kind of lack of concentration for those two goals.
Other than those two, they didn't really have any clear-cut chances. Courtney didn't have much to do.
Whereas I think Ireland created quite a bit, Julianne.
They did. Like the first couple of minutes, Emily had that chance. I think it was within the first four minutes. Caitlin Hayes had a good chance at a header, didn't really connect too well. Obviously at the end, Denise's shot cleared off the line. Like there was some really, really good chances. So yeah, it's really promising. I'm just really looking forward to seeing them moving forward now onto the game against Holland.
Sue, Kenny McCabe gave a bit of insight afterwards into what happened with the French goals. And it was seemingly that the French were targeting our width. They were going out wide and our midfield was struggling as a result. Did you see this happening in game? Could you feel that the tide was turning past the hour mark? Because there was a few chances that Ireland had just before the 60th minute. But did you feel it was going that way?
Yeah I think so and as Judy said like what an amazing first half we had and you know we went toe-to-toe one of the best teams in the world and we were the better team in that first half and you know the scoreline didn't flatter us we could have been a couple more goals ahead I thought the game plan was implemented perfectly and we were compact in defence we cut out those spaces centrally we forced them wide where there weren't any spaces obviously the pitch being narrowed helped but we also had bodies around the ball doubled up and just didn't give them a sniff really
