What are the highlights from the recent women's football weekend?
Very proud of the team's performance.
We're going to go out there to beat them.
We're going to try and beat them.
Hello and welcome to the latest episode of the koi gig podcast. Kathleen McNamee here with you to look through everything that happened in the world of women's football over the weekend from the WSL to the league here to the announcement of a new Carla Ward squad ahead of those absolutely crucial games against Poland in the middle of april a reminder if you haven't already to get your tickets to the aviva because it should be a great game especially considering the way that we played against france and netherlands in the last window and also how they played themselves um getting the point which was very very important against netherlands that we sadly just failed to do um joining me to look at that squad and everything else that happened
and over the weekend is lovely Scarlett Herron. Scarlett, how are things?
I'm all good, yeah, I'm all good. Very quiet here. Didn't have any antics like yourself over the weekend, so yeah, quiet enough.
Yes, as you may have noticed, Karen Duggan isn't here, and we did say last week she wasn't going to be around for a couple of weeks, and that was because she got married at the weekend in a lovely affair, by the looks of things. I wasn't at the actual wedding, but I was at the day two, and as I was saying to Scarlett before we... started recording it was it was a fun night there was a lot of dancing a lot of singing um a lot of footballers both former and current around the place so yeah i would love to say i had loved loads of gossip for the podcast but sadly there was just too much singing and dancing for that time for gossip No time for gossip, but a very good affair. And we hope that Karen has a very nice couple of weeks.
Didn't even get a chance to ask her where she was going on honeymoon or anything like that. But she'll be back in a couple of weeks time. So I'm sure she'll be able to regale us with some tales. I will say my voice is still a little bit croaky.
What squad changes did Carla Ward announce for the Poland games?
hers was as croaky at the time and i think anyone who has listened to this podcast will always know if karen's had like a a big weekend celebrating a match whether it's a ga match or a football match her voice is the first thing to go so really i'm just bringing the the spirit of the podcast to her here it was quite funny though going through like the various different family members and meeting them all for the first time and becoming very obvious that much like my own family they don't actually listen to the podcast because they were like who are you are you a footballer and i got to the stage where i was like i should just say i'm a footballer just yeah just agree be like yeah i play for pmount
Then I'd just be concerned that they'd start talking to me about people and I'd be like, yes, I know them super, super well. But yes, great weekend, had my all, still recovering slightly, but that's what these things are for. And thankfully I'm not a footballer, so I didn't have to line up for any matches or go to any training sessions. I could just waddle away to myself for a couple of days. Okay, we're going to start off with the squad because that's the most recent news. announcing it yesterday out at the FAI headquarters in Abbottstown. And not too many changes from the one that we saw from the last window. She decided to kind of largely keep the squad that, you know, had performed really, really well.
Big news being that Denise O'Sullivan is back after injury. Jamie Finn and Tara Hanlon are two of the names that drop out. Hayley Nolan, Heather Payne and Izzy Atkinson are all on the injury list. And then we also have the return of Iliag, which is really exciting for her because she's obviously had a tough time. with injury. And she was a name that Carla mentioned quite a few times in the press conference last time out as someone that she really, really wanted to bring in, but she just wasn't quite there yet. So she's a potentially interesting name because she did have a bit of a niggle and went off at her game at the weekend with a slight limp.
