Why do high‑achieving women still struggle to fully like themselves?

Trish Blackwell 0:00
You've done the work, the therapy, the journaling, the self-help books, the affirmations in the mirror. You've made real progress. And still there's this quiet, uncomfortable truth that you don't say out loud. You don't fully like yourself. Now, this isn't a dramatic way. It's not in a way that shows you function great. You show up, you perform, you care about people, you get things done. But somewhere underneath it all? When it gets really quiet, there's that version of you that when you're still you're not sure about, that you're still managing, you're still trying to fix, to improve, or at least keep hidden. And Here's what makes this so disorienting for high achievers specifically is that you have evidence that you're capable.
Trish Blackwell 0:54
You have a track record by l but liking yourself, actually liking yourself the way you'd like a good friend. That's a different thing entirely. And today we're gonna get to the real reason that that gap exists and more importantly, what to do about it. Because I want you to walk away from this episode not just knowing more about yourself. I want you to actually like what you find. I'm your host and your mindset coach, Trish Blackwell. You're listening to episode 709. And today we're talking about the real reason you don't fully like yourself yet, but more importantly, what to do about it. We're gonna talk about why liking yourself is different than Just having confidence in yourself. The root reason why high achievers end up developing this conditional relationship with themselves. How to tell the difference between genuinely liking yourself and managing your image. And I'm gonna give you today a narrative intelligence shift that's gonna make your self-acceptance actually stick. So we're also gonna end with. 15 I think I have how many do I have at the end here? Ten or fifteen ways.
Trish Blackwell 2:27
Oh, it's fifteen that you can actually get to know yourself and like yourself. Because it's one thing to say just like yourself, but what if you don't really know who you are? What if you've been going through Just the motions of life, being who the world has told you to be. Your parents have told you to be, culture has told you to be, your job has told you to be, social media has told you to be. This is a new uncovering, if you will, it's the adventure of being you. And it's gonna be easier than you think and a lot more fun. So let's dive in. Um, here's what I want to start with in coaching today: that there's this paradox in the world of high achievers, where you're grown, like you've grown, you've succeeded, you have healed, you've done the therapy work, you've invested thousands of dollars in self-development, you've accomplished so many things the younger you would be proud of.
Trish Blackwell 3:22
And yeah. You knew there was gonna be an and yet. You're still hard on yourself. You're still disappointed in yourself. You're still comparing yourself to others. You're still noticing what's wrong instead of what's right. You still feel like you're a project. And my question that I hope challenges you to your core today is at what point do you stop working on yourself and start liking yourself? At what point do you stop being a problem to solve and rather being a person who you enjoy being with? And confidence is not the same thing as liking yourself. A lot of people think, oh, you're confident, they must like themselves, but that's not true because you can speak on stages, you can run a company, you can lead teams, raise a family, be respected, make millions of dollars, and secretly
Trish Blackwell 4:16
not like spending time with yourself, not like yourself, or feel like you're pretending the whole time. Confidence is the belief that you can. It's that I can do it.
