Brian has been very busy this week, so bear with him. He's usually on top of it, but we'll see if the book tour is getting to him or not. So good evening, everyone. Welcome to the Don Lemon Show. They are calling it a swing state surge. There's a new Cook political report survey, and it shows that the vice president, Kamala Harris, is leading or tied... With Donald Trump in all but one of seven battleground states. Can you believe it? It's only been just like a little over two weeks. It's crazy. This is crazy what's going on. In Michigan, she's up by two. Arizona, she's up by four. Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, she's up by five, guys. And get this, she is now up by two in red North Carolinas. Trump was ahead by four to eight points in all of these states just back in May.
So we have a lot to dig into. Fortunately, I have the perfect guest to help us break it all down. That's political commentator, MSNBC contributor and the author of a brand new book. As I said, it's called Shameless Republicans' Deliberate Dysfunction in the Battle to Preserve Democracy by Mr. Brian Tyler Cohen. How are you doing? Glad you're on the show today. Don, thank you so much for having me. Excited to jump in here. Great, great, great. Okay, so listen, Brian, as I said, we have a lot to talk about. These are the things we're going to talk about. Harris's swing state surge, we're going to discuss. Brian's impressions on Harris's campaign so far, what she's doing right, maybe could do better, maybe even doing wrong, and then the book, okay?
And you're going to hear from a number of different people. So, Brian, can you set the table for us? I want to set the table for us, I should say. I just want to play, this is a clip from my friend Frank Luntz. He was on CNBC this morning. And then folks who are our audience or what we call lemonheads, they may recall that he was very bullish on Harris when he was on the show this last Friday. And I think he's even more bullish now, which is surprising to me. But take a look. I want to hear what you think afterwards. A twist.
She's bringing out people who are not interested in voting for either Trump or Biden. So the entire electoral pool has changed. And if it continues in this direction, you have to start to consider Democrats winning the Senate and Democrats winning the House. the actual people who are participating. She's got intensity now. She's got an intensity advantage. She's got a demographic advantage. And I haven't seen anything like this happen in 30 days in my lifetime.

I would absolutely agree with what Frank is saying, and that's bearing itself out in the numbers too. In the immediate aftermath of Joe Biden announcing that he wouldn't be running for re-election, we saw Kamala Harris secure the Democratic nomination, consolidate support among the entire party, and there was a wave of people who signed up to volunteer. There was a wave of people who signed up to vote.
