Buckle up because we're about to take you there right now. All right, guys, we're back on the next level agents podcasts again. I'm Kevin Kaufman, the host. Back with another solo episode. Just some thoughts I wanna share. with you. And this is this is something that I don't know, might mess with your head a little bit today.
Because it it's definitely messed with mine over the years. See, something I've learned is that most agents, especially Ambitious ones. believe that the simple answer in their business is to to sell more houses, do more units, more volume, more hustle, more GCI, more appointments, make more calls, just more, more, more, more, more. Listen, if you've listened to the show or or heard me speak live for any amount of time. Or maybe, maybe you've coached with me one on one. You know that I'm not anti-work. I'm not anti-hustle. I outwork a lot of people. But here's something that I learned the hard way. And that thing is this. If selling more homes actually created freedom. Then the top producers in our industry would be the freest people in the real estate world.
And they're not. Most agents I know just own a high paying job. They make more money, but they're still stuck. They're tied to their phone on vacation or at the dinner table or time with their family. They're tied to their calendar. They're tied to the next deal. And if they stop working, if they stop going to meet buyers and sellers. The money stops. And listen, that's nothing wrong with that, but that's let's be honest, that's not freedom. That's just a nice looking treadmill. truth I had to face in my career was that There was a season of my career where on paper everything looked amazing. Production was up. We're doing five hundred plus units a year. My income was up. Recognition was up. I think at one point we were
Two years in a row in the top fifty on the wall on the Wall Street Journal and Real Trends. List of top selling teams in the country. In fact, we were number one. At our brokerage EXP, the first year we joined. But Here's the truth. My life didn't feel lighter. In fact, it felt heavier. And more responsibility. And more people who needed me. More fucking fires that needed to be put out. And I remember thinking, like, isn't this supposed to be easier, not harder? Nobody tells you this part. Nobody tells you that scaling production doesn't automatically scale freedom. Sometimes it just scales stress.
Why do top producers often feel the least free?
Think about that. Sometimes scaling is actually just scaling your stress. And that's when I started To ask a different question. I should say we. Fred and I started to ask a different question. Not how do I sell more? But the question was, how does this work without me? By asking that question started to change everything. See, let me define freedom for you the way I see it now in twenty twenty six. Freedom isn't working two hours a week. Freedom isn't sitting on a beach whenever I w all the time. Freedom isn't some fake passive income dream. See freedom is simple. Freedom is getting paid for the decisions that you made years ago. Fre let me let me change that. Freedom is getting paid for the decisions I made years ago.
Not the effort I'm making today. I'm I'm gonna say that again because this one matters. Freedom. True freedom is getting paid for your decisions that you made years ago. Because if you have to show up for every dollar, you don't own a business. You own a job that like looks better. It's got better branding. It's got better bells and whistles, but it's still a job in real estate. Is really good at disguising jobs as businesses. Say that again. Real estate is really good at disguising jobs as businesses.
