I'm Kevin Kaufman, and today I am continuing our series called Next Level Truths. Just little short focused episodes where I share one truth per episode about the real estate business that
I believe every agent needs to hear kind of not a lot of fluff, not a lot of hype, just things that actually work, things that I've both distilled from my business as well as through the hundreds and hundreds of interviews with top producing real estate agents from all around the world. over the years on this podcast. So let's dive in. Today's truth. Your calendar is your business plan. Today's truth is your calendar is your business plan. Okay, it's not your goals, your it's not your intentions, it's not what you say you're gonna do. It's not even what you tell me is the most important thing. It's what you actually schedule and put into your calendar. See If you're willing to look at your calendar, honestly.
It will tell you everything you need to know about your business. If you're unwilling to look at your calendar honestly, or even look at your calendar at all. Tells you also a lot about your business, right? So this the first part of this is like what I'd call the the intention, not attention, the intention gap. We're gonna start here because I I actually think most agents they've got in good intentions, right? They want to grow. Maybe they want more listings, definitely want more closings, right? So there's more income. And I hear agents In the masterminds, we we host say things all the time like, I need to prospect more, I need to follow up more, I need to be more consistent. But then like I I'm like cool, let me see your calendar.
And then I see that usually none of that is scheduled, right? There's no time block for lead gen.
Why do top‑producing agents schedule their most important activities first?
There's no time block for follow-up. There's no time block for having conversations with the people that they're in business with or they want to be doing business with. Just a lot of like re reactive work. Lot of appointments. Show up a lot of quote unquote busy. That's what I'm referring to when I say the intention gap. It's the gap between what you say matters. But what's actually on your calendar? Right, because your calendar doesn't lie. You can tell me that your priorities are growth. You can tell me your priorities are listing appointments. You can tell me your priorities are growing your business from fifty deals a year to to 75 deals a year. Or from ten deals a year to twenty five deals a year, but your calendar will tell the real story.
And if your calendar is full of stuff like administrative work, errands, emails, distractions, follow-ups, appointments with inspectors, coffees with a new lender. bunch of distractions, just total all the bullshit that we tell ourselves that we need to do. Basically the reactive this means you're just doing reactive tasks. Then that's actually your business plan. It's not what you tell me your business plan is. It's not what you wrote down in the fourth quarter of last year when you wrote a business plan, if you even did that. And I don't this isn't about what you intended to do. This is this is about what you're doing. See, most agents operate in what I you could refer to as like a default mode, right?
They wake up, check their phone, they respond to whatever's urgent. They probably handle whatever comes up and then they just move from one task to the next, usually whatever's like most pressing, whatever's making the most noise in their world. And before they know it, the day is gone.
