Kevin Kauffman 0:45
There's more chaos, more division, more problems. And here's the crazy part. If you actually look at the data, not opinions, not headlines, not definitely not social media. You realize that you're wrong if you said it's getting worse. Not a little bit wrong. Like you're wildly wrong. And before you push back, like I've been there too again, I think most people are. So today, this episode is gonna be a little bit different. I wanna talk you through something that has helped change the way I see the world. How I make decisions and honestly, just how I lead people in my life, both work and outside of work. And what sparked this for me was. Another podcast I listen to. And which led me to a book. And I just was like, man, I want to
Kevin Kauffman 1:33
I really want to share this with other people. So here we are. The thing is, if your world view is off. Mini in. You're wrong about the way things are. Then your decisions are off. Your energy's gonna be off. Your leadership is off.

Is the world really getting worse or are we just perceiving it that way?

Kevin Kauffman 1:53
Е болив да із That really matters. So let's talk about the real problem. Just misperception, right? That's what we're talking about. Is m misperception. Here's the truth. In our business, the biggest problem isn't the market. The biggest problem isn't the interest rates. It's not inventory. It again, it's misperception. We're operating with a distorted view of reality. Most of us tend to think in extremes. We think everything is either hot or or dead. It's we're winning or we're losing. Where someone's rich or they're poor. Everything's good or everything's bad. But the thing is the world doesn't actually work that way. What happens is our brain wants to simplify things because there's so much data that comes at us.
Kevin Kauffman 2:45
Every moment of every day we're we're collecting so much data that we we literally cannot possibly process it all. And so our brain's sort of natural defense to that is let's simplify everything. So we don't actually have to break it down. And the problem is when you simplify everything too much, you simplify reality. And when you do that, you're gonna make bad calls. You're gonna be wrong. You're gonna overreact. You could hesitate. You're gonna miss opportunities. So let let's break down one of those the biggest lies that that we believe. You've you've heard this. Hundreds, if not thousands of times. Maybe you've said it, but There's two types of people, the haves and the have nots. Uh rich rich of rich or poor.
Kevin Kauffman 3:36
Successful or struggling. Especially in real estate. And yeah, and in real estate we use terms like top producers and then like The average agent or everyone else. But like guys, that's not reality. Reality is there's a spectrum of people. There's there's this massive middle that truthfully most people live in. And when you don't see that, you don't acknowledge it, it's really easy to misjudge people. It's really easy to misjudge the market. To misjudge opportunity? And so of course that same thing happens in your business. Right. You think, Oh, I'm crushing it, or I'm struggling, or Jimmy in my office is crushing it. Jimmy in my office is struggling. It's it's always one or the other. But the thing is when you do that, you're missing the nuance in the middle.
Kevin Kauffman 4:25
Which is actual reality. And I think that is where Most of opportunity lives. Now let's Let me shift this a little bit, talk about why. We think everything's getting worse. I get it.
