Why is vaping considered a growing addiction instead of quitting smoking?
In the last couple of months, more and more of the people who decide to work with me by joining my four-week hypnosis coaching program for smoking cessation are not addicted to cigarettes, but they are in fact addicted to vaping. This gets unfortunately more and more popular, but I just want to let you know that yes, my hypnosis coaching program also works when it comes to turning you. From somebody who's addicted to vaping to somebody who no longer has any desire or addiction to vaping. But I also at the same time received a lot of emails over the last couple of months from people who asked me if vaping is the better alternative and if vaping is actually not that harmful and if I should rather vape than quit smoking.
And this is in my humble opinion, and also from all the research I did. And in the last couple of months, I did a lot of research about the topic of vaping and about the effects of vaping, the negative ones, and also how the effects differ when it comes to smoking cigarettes and vaping. And I can confidently say that you should never think about replacing smoking cigarettes. With vaping, because vaping can cause lung inflammation and damage to your lungs because of the exposure of harmful chemicals like diacetyol, which is for example linked to what is called popcorn lung, which is also called pronchiolitis obliterans, and I probably pronounced that wrong, but It is called bronchiolitis obliterance, and this is a respiratory condition that affects the smallest airways in your lungs, and if you have this condition, these airways then become inflamed, damaged, and then scarred because of inhaling toxic substances or from infections.
How does vaping cause lung inflammation and conditions like bronchiolitis obliterans?
And this can lead to all kinds of negative side effects, it can lead to shortness of breath, it can lead to Lead to coughing, yes, just like when you're smoking cigarettes, the reason is just a different one, but the effects are the same. And it also leads to increased risk of heart disease. Because the nicotine in e-cigarettes can raise your blood pressure, it can raise your heart rate, and it also increases the risk of heart disease. And studies suggest that the chemicals in which Vape aerosols may contribute to endotellelial dysfunction, which is a precursor to cardiovascular problems. And I, as somebody who was born with a congenital heart defect, and I had two heart surgeries in my life, I am very careful about staying away from everything that can damage your heart.
And I truly believe that I, as somebody who has been through a heart surgery, as a baby which I can't remember, but as a teenager which I definitely can remember, and all the pain and the suffering that comes along with it.
What cardiovascular risks are linked to nicotine and chemicals in e‑cigarettes?
I can confidently say that a lot of people don't take the risk of cardiovascular disease serious because they always think, oh, you know, I won't get a heart attack. No, I won't need a heart surgery until it's too late. And then remember that many vape liquids contain high levels of nicotine, which is highly addictive. And especially adolescent. And young adults are particularly vulnerable with that because it is way more popular among young people than among the older generation. And I can confidently say that the average age of my clients who want to quit smoking. when it comes to smoking cigarettes is way higher than the average age of the people who contact me who want to quit vaping. And I believe that the reason for that is quite obvious because back in the days 30, 40 years ago, smoking cigarettes was seen as cool.
Nowadays vaping is seen as cool and in and hip.
How does adolescent vaping affect brain development and mental health?
And this of course makes it so much easier for younger people to get it. Addicted to it, which especially for younger people who are still developing, whose brains are still developing, this is so dangerous because nicotine exposure during adolescence can impair brain development. It can affect areas responsible for attention, learning, and impulse control. And long-term vaping can result in permanent alterations to cognitive functions and And emotional regulation.
