Why do many agents believe talent is the key to success?
Buckle up because we're about to take you there right now. Hey everyone, welcome back to the next level agents podcast. I'm Kevin Kaufman, continuing this short series called Next Level Truths, short focused episodes, just sharing one little nugget about the real estate business that I believe every agent needs to hear. Because it works. So today's truth is Discipline beats talent. Every single time. And if you really understand this. It should change the way you think about your potential in this business because most agents believe something that simply just isn't uh, it's just not true. They believe the agent who wins or the agents who win the most or sell the most are the most talented. And I think that's a myth.
Like that's the talent. See, when you're newer in the business, it's easy to look around and think, uh, that agent's just better than I am. They're more confident, they're more natural. They're better talking to people. And you start to believe that success is reserved for like a certain type of person. They're extroverted. Maybe you say they're a natural salesperson. They just have it. They have it. But if you've been in this business long enough, you know that's not necessarily how it works. Because you've seen agents with incredible talent struggle. And you've seen agents who appear to be pretty average build massive businesses. So what's the difference?
How does the talent myth keep agents stuck?
What actually separates these agents? Because it's not the talent, it's not the personality, it's not even the experience. I would say it's discipline. I'm gonna also insert something else here. For this point forward in the rest of the episode, when you hear me say the word discipline, I also want you to think about the word habit. Because I I think discipline, even though I'm using it today, I I think I think it gets you overused by people who have something different. Called a habit. And I believe that discipline is important for building the right habits. But I believe it's really easy. to go look at me, I'm disciplined. I go to the gym every day at five AM at four thirty AM. I meditate, then go to the like that's that's not actually discipline.
That's habit. But it does take discipline to build those habits. So But the next few minutes as we as we go through this this podcast and through this truth. I want you to just when you hear the word discipline, I also want you to think this is this is also a habit, meaning it's gonna take discipline from me at first to build a habit. And that habit will look like discipline to other people, but I'll know that it's I didn't have to keep using the discipline. I actually just built a habit. Because what discipline is about or habits. When you form them, it's about the ability to do the right things consistently, even when you don't feel like it. That's That's the separator. Because here's the reality. There's days when you don't feel motivated.
There's days when you don't feel confident. There's days I would where you don't feel like making calls. In fact, I would say there's maybe there's actually some days where you do feel like making calls. Most days you're not gonna feel like making calls. Maybe that's just me. Right. But here's the deal: if your business depends on how you feel, it's gonna be pretty inconsistent because you're a human being and we go through all sorts of fucking feelings. Right. So don't get caught in the in this like emotion trap because I think this is where most agents get stuck. They operate based on emotion. Like when they feel good, they'll work. When they feel confident, they'll prospect or they'll approach people.
